Anybody see Blake & Boonie vs Monty? Monty said Yanks told him not to throw 4 seamer so much. Cards say, fire away. Success follows. Blake & Boonie: "Well, yeah. The National League sucks" essentially.
It's always a good idea to use your fastball a lot, particularly the 4 seamer. It sets up all the other pitches. Keeps hitters "honest".
If your fastball is mediocre, then what do you do, throw it less? No, you can't throw it less. You'll just make the hitters sit on your other pitches. Instead, you have to hit spots better, locate. You have to work on developing more late movement on it, by experimenting with grips, finger pressure, etc. That's what the pitching coach is there for. That's why you exchange ideas with the other guys on the staff. That's why you talk to pitchers on other teams (they'll often share). You have to work on reading a hitter's swing better, so you know when they'll be more susceptible to fastball or off speed, inside or outside corner, up or down in the zone, or lead them out of the zone.
I wouldn't put any stock in what Boone says. He's just doing damage control.
Telling your pitcher that his fastball sucks and that he shouldn't throw it so much is like telling a boxer that his jab sucks so he shouldn't throw his jab. Just like a boxer's jab sets up everything else, so does the fastball set up the off speed stuff. Stop throwing it and you make things much more difficult for yourself.
I disagree on putting either Jackson or Rose in the Hall. BUT I agree that MLB is completely hypocritical to jump into bed with professional gambling.
One of the big barriers to throwing games in the past was that you needed to bet so much on the fixed World Series, etc., was that it made a suspicious change in the odds.
Now...with the option to be on individual innings and even plays, it's so much easier to secretly cheat. This will soon happen, as various players indulge relations and in-laws, and various umpires decide they want to be rich, too.
Wow, it's actually happening. They're really going to blow this. Down to 4 1/2. Purposely skipped the game tonight, but the YES box score and play-by-play is incomprehensible.
Did Wandy Peralta actually play shortstop tonight? And they gave up ANOTHER 3-run homer to the SAME .237 hitter?
I don't get it. Does NOBODY have a brain on this team? I know, I know—that answers itself.
Also, I'm telling you right now that Judge will not break any home-run record. There's just too little around him—and as the collapse continues, he'll get sucked into the general panic, trying to do too much.
you are probably right , HC - not that this is something to be proud of as it is sorta kinda sad about Judge trying his best on this team of mashed potato road kill nothingness
Judge isn't going to panic. He's played this season knowing exactly what his team's executive branch thinks about him since about an hour before Opening Day and he's having a year for the freaking ages; he's got them HATING him right now. Make no mistake: Cash and HAL hate him. He won't drop to their level and even worse, he's producing numbers NO ONE has produced in any similar unprotected situation. I almost always listen to The Master and Suzyn but Friday night I saw the game and AJ was smiling on the bases.
Aaron Judge is the man for the place he finds himself. I suspect he's going to teach a bunch of people a bunch of lessons.
Going on a 1 -week trip starting tomorrow. Great time to x-out team.
When I get back, Rizzo and Ruth Bader will be in the lineup. That should help. Plus Peraza will make his weekly start. Plus, Hicks and Marwin won't be playing and Montas won't be pitching.
Unfortunately Stanton will continue to look like an 11 year-old swinging against the best 13 year-old in Little League and they will still bat him as DH. Watching him bat is giving me flash backs to LL where every kid on the team was required to play 3 innings each game and coaches would maneuver the two worst kids for 3 innings apiece, usually in RF cuz there was no DH then.
Oh yes, I nearly forgot; FUCK YOU HAL, CASHOLE AND BOONDOGLE

ReplyDeleteso they found an "injury" for Montas. Good. Sevi takes his place in the rotation.
ReplyDeleteGood. Now trade him in the off season.
Watched part of the pregame on mlb network, brought to you by draft kings.
ReplyDeleteWe went from Shoeless Joe being banned to mlb being sponsored by the gamblers.
Shoeless Joe needs to be in the hall.
Pete Rose too.
Fuck mlb.
Fuck you HAL.
...all within 100 years.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree, Rufus.
ReplyDeleteThis gambling shit is an embarrassment. As are so many of MLB decisions.
Kay and Nelson glowing over Taillon's three runs per game leakage. Yeah, I'm less than thrilled with it when the team had trouble scoring at all.
Let's hope Montas goes to the 60 day. Get rid of him for the rest of the year.
I think Monty is just another example of how lousy our coaching is. Refsnyder and he are poster children.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to root for a team when you think so many of the players are losers put in place by the Genius.
ReplyDeleteI should say it's hard to root for a team when you hate so much about them and how they're managed from the top down.
ReplyDeleteNot if you're Irish, JM.
ReplyDeletePoint.
ReplyDeleteMarwin hit. Could we get an IL? Hope he's ok.

Meredith calling out Kay for being such a lying shithead asshole. What a jerk he is.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, Hoss. It's how humans are.
ReplyDeleteSee ya.
ReplyDeleteAnd Kay is an asshole.
Three runs minimum, as promised.
ReplyDeleteKay needs a Cologuard in the booth with him.
ReplyDeleteAnd DonaldDaddy goes Yard
Rowdy Yates.
ReplyDeleteRawhide reruns would be better now.
Those reruns are pretty good.
ReplyDeleteJesus, Stanton is terrible.
ReplyDeleteJust got home in time to see Stanton whiff. Shoulda stayed out.
ReplyDeleteFuck ty, I'm going to bed. Taillon blows.
ReplyDeleteFuck this, I mean.
ReplyDeleteI guess we have the RISP blues again. Jesus this team

ReplyDeleteIt's gonna be a short post season, sure wish there was a way they could blow it and just fail to make it. Maybe they would FINALLY get rid of Cashole
ReplyDeleteStanton 0-4 4K can he stop now? He should go home.
ReplyDeleteI’m praying for an historic collapse that would leave the 64 Phillies smiling
ReplyDeleteI'm on the collapse train as well. Judge should get 62 though. Other than that... flush it and take Brian and Boonie out.
ReplyDeleteGene Mauch collapse along with Judge signing elsewhere, along with bonehead and ca$hole being fired is my Santa Claus list I send to the north pole.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, the likelihood is exactly the same as Santa Claus being real.
Plus, the Yankees are in danger of losing the tabloid back page race.
ReplyDeleteActually not, because this epic collapse will rate many back pages.
Fuck you HAL.
and boonie, and cashole.
No Pain No . . . . . . . . .
ReplyDelete(this sucks)
Yep…
