The only other time that a sitting English monarch has died during a Yankees season? Edward VII, May 6, 1910.
That day the Highlanders lost to Detroit, up on Washington Heights, 5-3 in 10. The losing pitcher was Hippo Vaughn, who went 13-11, 1.83. A couple years later, when it looked like his arm was gone, we released him—and thus missed out on his 5, 20-win seasons with the Cubs.
Hmm. I wonder if Brian Cashman I was in the Yanks' front office then...
Guzman given a chance to redeem himself. I'd rather have him at first than Marwin, who is not a first baseman by a long shot.
I know this is not the lineup we had in the first half, but given all the circumstances, I like it. It's always fun to see the kids, especially when they do some great things right out of the gate like Cabrera.
He should learn to hit over time, but given the 0-fers we've seen from our "name" players, I could care less. Great defense everywhere you put him. And Peraza ain't bad, either. Plus, the competition might wake up a jamoke like Gleyber.
This is a lot more entertaining than watching veterans with nagging injuries fail badly, day in and day out.
Guzman suffered from what industry experts are now calling the Weissert-Squirt Syndrome.
This is where call-ups need several in-game diaper changes due to the pressures of their first game/first game back in the bigs during a high pressure pennant race.
Thankfully none of us had to spend time around Guzman's locker in between games yesterday.
On a happy note. According to an article in Forbes dated today, the Yanks are the highest valued baseball franchise at 6 Billion $. Quite a return since George bought them in 1973 for 8.8Mil..
Luckily, Hal-hole has saved enough to buy an Italian soccer team. And in keeping with our recent "Gay" mascot theme, Hal has always enjoyed watching sweating, exerting young men in silk shorts. Just Saying.
And shelled out something like $800,000 in his own money, Archie. And now they are, what, the third highest valued sports franchise IN THE WORLD? It's always something like the Cowboys, a European soccer team...and the Yankees.
And 30 straight winning seasons IS impressive. But it remains appalling considering that—in light of all the immense public subsidies New York has given the Yankees—their higher loyalty is to the cartel.
Let's face it: without acquiring the Yankees, HAL is hugging a desk somewhere, decades after Dad's shipbuilding business expired. Not saying that he or the other Steinbrenners would be starving...but billionaires? No.
And all they can think of is to not break ranks with the other owners, and how to maximize their revenues. Nice.
And as we mourn the loss of the queen, please take a moment to remember that she wouldn't have lived so long without the actions of brave opera singer Enrico Pallazzo, who saved her from a dastardly assassination attempt by Reggie Jackson in 1988.
IKF is actually hitting cleanup. He has 3 HRs and a .335 slugging percentage in 400-plus at bats this season, and he's our cleanup hitter. His "protection" in the lineup at No. 5 is Marwin Gonzalez, hitting .200.
Remember when this lineup was being compared to the '27, '61 and '98 Yankees? Ah, the good old days.
My local comcast is telling me I have the Yankees on mlb network. They're showing SF-Pittsburg. Because that's what people in NH want. Said no one ever.

ReplyDeleteThis doesn't bode well.

Meanwhile, don't quite understand why Guzman gets another shot, after playing THE SINGLE WORST GAME EVER.
ReplyDeleteBut hey, let it go!
Guzman given a chance to redeem himself. I'd rather have him at first than Marwin, who is not a first baseman by a long shot.

Sad to lose the Queen. As Sinatra might have said, she was a classy broad.
ReplyDeleteHossssssssss

Don't forget Kinky Boots, Arch.
ReplyDeleteNot that there's anything wrong with that.

The business of America is business, Hoss.

ReplyDelete(Yeah, Bern, that was me trading tweets with you.)
ReplyDeleteI figured that was you, JM, though the avatar is different. (I admit, a lot of the financial stuff you tweet goes way over my head).
ReplyDeleteDJ going on EL…
ReplyDeleteAnDUjar is back on roster…

The Queen? Really? Back in the day? I fucked her.
ReplyDeleteToo soon?
ReplyDeleteBern,
ReplyDeleteI believe Enrico was knighted for that effort.
Winnie,
ReplyDeleteShe was already old by the time you got her. But I bet she was still a screamer.

ReplyDeleteGlass Man coming through in the clutch.
