Here Cashman REALLY gets going...and going...and going—and all in praise of "the Steinbrenner family." Editorial notes included.
“…If you’re any player, there’s always curiosity of elsewhere, right? Um, and the one feedback I constantly get, which, you know, I make sure I communicate to our owners, is when players aren’t with us anymore—or they come and come back—I do know that they appreciate what the Steinbrenner family provides for our players. Whether it’s facilities, travel, security, you know, there’s so many different amenities that the Steinbrenner family go above and beyond for, to try to put the players—this is a tough environment, New York. [SNIVEL MUCH?] Playing in New York is not easy. You know, our fans, rightfully so, are demanding, [WE'RE DEMANDING THREATS...BUT RIGHTFULLY SO!] and expecting winning on a year-in-and-year-out, day-in-and-day-out, year-in-and-year-out basis, [YES, HE REALLY DID SAY "YEAR-IN-AND-YEAR-OUT" TWICE] and so, you know, ownership on top of that, is trying to make sure that they’re comfortable, and happy, and their families are taken care of, and they take a lot of great pains in providing enough support in that arena. ["ARE YOU WATCHING, HAL?] And so when players have played here and played elsewhere, when they come here from elsewhere, they’re like ‘Wow!’ They’re blown away with all the extra stuff that we do to try to support them. [RIGHT. THEY GO CRAZY OVER THE CLUBHOUSE BUFFET SPREAD.] So, I think Aaron Judge knows that. But at the same time, like any free agent, they’re curious. They’re gonna be curious. [THEY ARE CURIOUS YELLOW.] They’re gonna be curious about what their marketplace value is, and what other places provide. But I can tell you this from what I’ve understand [sic], most other places don’t provide what our fan base provides, what our ownership provides, and hopefully that carries some weight, too.”
Giants are in with a big offer to Judge — believed to be $360M neighborhood — but the assumption/belief among rivals is that the Yankees remain favorites. Yankees are hopeful but say they still don’t know..... Heyman
ReplyDeleteSo. Many. Amenities.
ReplyDeleteA bit condescending, yes? Cashman should have cut to the chase and said that players should pay Hal for the honor of being a Yankee. Pretty rich stuff.
ReplyDeleteThat photo of Cashman looks as though he just burned a fatty. Which explains a lot...
