At 80 years of age. Very sweet story in the NY Post about it. And what a picture of Durante catching Maris's 61st! I have never seen that before. A one-handed, barehanded grab, with another guy's hand in his face—not bad!

Yes - that was indeed a wonderful little story.
ReplyDeleteIt almost looks as though the guy next to Durante is holding a cigarette in Durante's mouth as he catches the ball.
And it gives a great reminder of the way humans age when you compare Durante's face in the 2011 shot to the others . . .
