Asshats

So the day before yesterday, as the apocalypse closed in, Paulie O'Neill and Michael Kay decided it was a good idea to make jokes about how the ambience all seemed like Gotham City.

"Hey, the world's burning! Yuk-yuk-yuk-yuk!"

I loved watched Paulie play. But as an announcer, I think this guy is a zero, constantly petulant, whiny, and flippant.

Michael Kay is an asshat from way back.

This is part of an ongoing, ecological catastrophe, and these guys are yukking it up. Hiding their real concern, of course, which is that if they dare so much as hint that the greed mongers who run MLB should cancel games in the face of the apocalypse...they themselves could well be canceled.

Smiling jackasses.

  1. Relax, man. You have become way, way too addicted to the left-wing fearmongers.

  2. Don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel!

I am fortunately in VT right now, where the air is less filled with particulate.

Stay safe to all that are in the path of the canadian dragon breath.

On a happier note, my buddy and I are planning a threefer in August. The 2nd IIH-IIF-iic game along with a Hudson Valley game and a Scranton game. They're all playing at home that week.

  3. It is interesting (and unfortunate) that the North east gets to experience in part what we've been dealing with for the past several years out here in California.

Perhaps this will help to continue to raise awareness a bit to how 'things" are changing . . .

  4. Southeast of Rochester right now there is sun and enough patches of blue sky to make a pair of pants, as my grandmother would say. It's getting better. Hang in there and fear not.

Which is not to say that Paul (as an announcer) and Kay don't suck. Fully in agreement there.

  5. True, AA. I can't recall anything like this in the East since Mt. St. Helen spewed ash that ended up drifting in our direction.

Also way back when, I remember the hole in the ozone layer. Nobody denied what caused it--fluorocarbons. Those were basically outlawed, and the hole healed itself over time.

Yeah, no reason to even try anything now. Just let it ride and see what happens. Hint: it's shit like this, but more often and worse.

O'Neill is not the brightest bulb. Kay is a shill. Boone is an idiot. Cashman is incompetent. We've got every base covered.

  7. MICHAEL KAY (voice somewhat filtered through a Darth Vader-like breathing apparatus) "You know Paulie, there have been reports that the particulates make the air heavier, denser. So there will likely be less long balls during today's matchups"

PAULIE O' "Yeah - its of when I played back at Riverfront stadium. Some days during the summer the stench coming in off the river was so bad that it hard to hit the ball at all."

  8. Well at least we tied up the game…

  9. I have no personal fear about this myself, being an alter cocker, MJ. What I feel is rage on behalf of all the great young people I know. They shouldn't have to do deal with this shit.

Rugged, this ain't politics. I've lived in this city for the last 47 years, and was born in this area almost 65 years ago. Never seen anything like this. But then, northern Canada never burned down before.

You got a laissez-faire, right-wing solution to this, I'd love to hear it. But don't tell me the sun is shining when there's ash in my mouth.

  10. Well, as an old left-wing fear monger, New Deal Liberal, bleeding heart asshole, and general believer in science, I say, "YOU GO, HOSS." You tell it like it is, as the red hat cult likes to say about their boy. You are correct and you are also a stellar student of the game.

God bless America, God bless Hal "The Mighty One" Steinbrenner, Brian "The Genius" Cashman, Dandy Randy Levine and all the other fine trainers, coaches bat boys, butt boys and pretzel vendors in the glorious Yankee organization. Okay, I have to go to my Antifa Choir meeting now.

  11. On a lighter note...

Get out the way of Setback Sevvy
He gives up dingers by the bevy
Arm came off five years ago
Cash gave him forty mill even so...

  12. You can't fight in here! This is the WAR ROOM!!!

And we are all at war with Yankee (mis)management.

Fuck HAL, Ca$hole, Bonehead and the Lonn Trosts in the suites.

  14. Thanks, Bitty. I want to say that, and also that something is seriously wrong with DJ.

And can we just not play Gleyber when he doesn't feel like playing?

  15. Better today than yesterday here on LI. Yesterday was bad. Bad and bizarre.
Went for a run just now, no problems at all
Climate Change? Denial is not just a river in Egypt.

  16. These home run rituals get sillier and sillier.

  17. Hoss: I wasn't taking a political side here. It's a bunch of forest fires and smoke and it's clearing up here. I meant it as an "it's getting better; hang in there" statement. Sorry if it came across otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  18. For what it's worth: All kinds of Canadian smoke up here in the early '90s. 1994 or so (could be off on the year).

The smoke might not have made its way to NYC, but huge fires in Canada have happened before and dropped their particulates o'er our great land.

  19. So now we are going to get swept at home by the White Sox?

Imagine sitting through the double header and then buying a $48 dollar t-shirt that says, "I saw the Yankees play a double header and all I got was lung cancer."

  20. “But don't tell me the sun is shining when there's ash in my mouth”

    Terrifically well said Hoss

  21. Rufus ,

That sounds like a great trip. HV is a nice ballpark. I've never been to Scranton. Let us know how the jr.Yankees look.

  22. Recapping then first game, Severino very unimpressive, Stanton, LeMahieu, Torres, Rizzo 0-15. Way to step up with Judge out, guys.

Severino: please god, do NOT re-sign him. Trade him at the deadline if u can, otherwise let him walk.
LeMahieu: Either hurt or cooked. Since this team lies like a Fox News host, who knows? Either way it shows the abject folly of handing out long term contracts to an over 30 player. Also tired of hearing Kay comment after a seeing eye hit “LeMahieu is back!”
Rizzo: 1-19 since he was injured, respect to him for trying, but he’s not right and it’s hurting us now.
Stanton: same as it ever was. Eventually he’ll start guessing correctly and hit a few hr’s before it’s summer vacay time followed by another cold as hell restart. Rinse, Repeat…

  23. Just posted a new thread for the second game.

  24. Will do Doug!

First report will be from the Yankee Stadium Mall and Gift Shop.

  25. MJ, I wasn't referring to you about politics—that was directed to "Rugged," as I wrote.

No, I appreciated your comment, I was just clarifying that I didn't feel fear about this, only rage. For all the good it would do.

  26. An outbreak of Canadian fire smoke in 1950 emanated from further west in Alberta Province. It made headlines as well. References were made to mushroom clouds as that type of fear was real at the time. However, this outbreak from Quebec is considerably worse.

To Rugged: On the entire planet Earth, there is a total of just 1 political party that believes that man-made climate change is a hoax. Just one. Elsewhere, parties debate over how to deal with said change. But no others deny this event. Guess which party, Rugged? Shouldn't be too hard as you are an obvious member.

    ReplyDelete
  27. All cool, Hoss. My apologies for eliding the "Rugged" in my reading. I actually agree with everything you said and somehow managed to confuse myself. It's been known to occur...anyway, it's almost time to kick some lame-ass Southie teeth in. On to the fun!
