Boone: "Take a little bit of solace in just how these guys continued to show up, continued to prepare, continued to compete all the way until the end. They played well down the stretch when it wasn’t necessarily an easy thing to do."

No solace. No, no, no, no, NO...

  1. Duque,

BTR's eloquent words of wisdom should be the chyron.

At least until Boone is fired. Then change it to Cashman doing the act until he is fired.

Then, until HAL sells the team...

  3. I know. BOOOOOOO!

First, let's face it: playing baseball for a living IS an easy thing to do. Period. Full stop. Yeah, there are annoyances. Yes, you feel kind of achy sometimes. All more than compensated by the prodigious amounts of money, six months off a year, early retirement age, and you chicks for free, as the poet says. Enough already on how tough this is.

Second, they went all of 17-11 in Sept.-Oct., and scored all of 108 runs—or one more than they scored in August. They also gave up 118 runs. In other words, they scored less than 4 runs a game.

Yeah, the stretch drive in 1978, it wasn't. They puttered and mucked about much as they had all year, and had a little better luck, a few more tomato cans, and Judge back in the lineup. That's it.

What's more, there seemed to me to be plenty of games before this Golden September when they were indeed mailing it in. Could a revived last month have had anything to do with an influx of rookies, fighting for their future?

Whatever. Still more self-delusion and denial is not the way to start the off-season.

  4. This is not baseball related, not by a stretch. But I just wanted to find something that would wash away the awful stench of all the bullshit I've already heard from the three little pigs and all that I will hear in the coming months.

The Laughing Heart by Charles Bukowski

    your life is your life
don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
    be on the watch.
    there are ways out.
    there is light somewhere.
it may not be much light but
    it beats the darkness.
    be on the watch.
the gods will offer you chances.
    know them.
    take them.
    you can’t beat death but
you can beat death in life, sometimes.
and the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
    your life is your life.
know it while you have it.
    you are marvelous
    the gods wait to delight
    in you.

    Don't puke Buk
