While Hoss' “The New York Game ” is clearly THE must have baseball
book of the year, this spring will also see the release of another noteworthy tome that is worthy of attention.
Metamorphassistant – Franz Kafka
A classic reimagining of Brian Cashman’s meteoric rise from intern to chief cause of the destruction of one of sports greatest franchises.
An excerpt:
“As Brian C. awoke one
morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a
gigantic insect. He was lying on his hard, as it were armor-plated, back and
when he lifted his head a little he could see his dome-like brown belly divided
into stiff arched segments on top of which the bed quilt could hardly keep in
position and was about to slide off completely. His numerous legs, which were
pitifully thin compared to the rest of his bulk, waved helplessly before his
eyes.
“Garbage! I must have
garbage with which to sustain myself.”
He crawled over to the
black housephone sitting atop a small table strewn with advertisements for
Rogaine, old Sporting News magazines, and a strangly soiled copy of Boys Life. “Get
me Rodon’s agent. I’m ready to make a deal…”
“Finally, an author who can make sense of the last fifteen
years of Yankees decision making.”
- - Publishers Weekly
“Long and needlessly
expensive... and that’s just the chapter on Giancarlo Stanton's contract.”
- - The New York Book Review of Books
“It is high! It is far! It is gone! This book is no Czech
Swing!
- - John Sterling
This book is no Czech Swing!
ReplyDeleteDamn . . .
Blog is on FI-YAH
Better throw it in the water
Look at us laughing
Like a heifer to the slaughter
Very Cashmanesque.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant, Doug! And excellent, uh, you know, that rhyming rapping stuff the kids do nowadays, AA. I think they call it hippety-hoppety or something.
ReplyDeleteThe notorious blog, the only place where Brian Eno and Franz Kafka intersect
ReplyDelete"...strangly soiled copy of Boys Life."
ReplyDeleteI need a shower after that.
mr. bit, Eno and Kafka may be the same person.
Stranger things have happened. Like trading Buhner.
How was that shower, RTF?
ReplyDeleteDid it cleanse away the the strangely soiledness of your earlier blog experience?
Imanaga to sign with the Cubs, terms tba. We will wish that he had signed with us, mark my words. And yeah he gave up a lot of homers in Japan yet was nearly as good as He who I will not name here. Maybe he was the 'Catfish Hunter' of Japan? Time is running out, and we still need a guy to play centerfield, two starters, and a couple of reliable bullpen arms. Maybe The Brain has everything figured, and about to be triggered. Or maybe he outsmarts everyone and trades Soto for an absolute haul on July 30. Yeah, THAT'S the ticket....
ReplyDeleteInteresting, Kevin. Well, we'd better sign SOMEONE.
ReplyDeleteWell done, Doug. Helps remind all of us that following the Yankees has been a trial recently.
