The NYC media meat grinder is gearing up to portray George Lombard Jr. as the next Jeter. Damn.
Nothing good can come of this. There is one result, one comparison, and it always leads to one conclusion: Disappointment. Lombard looks like a fine, young, developing SS; that's not nothing. But comparing him to Jeter is how the machine destroys upcoming Yankees. It crushed Volpe. It crushed The Martian. Now, it's honing the guns on Lombard.
The guy is 44 ABs into an MLB career. Let him breathe.
2. Nasty Nestor "Ocasio" Cortes just signed with the Phillies. Bravo! Guy hasn't pitched all year, returning from an injury. He's only 31. Last we remember, he answered Boone's horrible, ridiculous, call in the 2024 World Series and gave up a game-winning HR to Freddie Freeman, his first pitch in 37 days. It wasn't his fault. Boone had no business sending him out there.
We ended up trading Nestor to Milwaukee for Devon Williams - for whom we crashed the iconic Yankee beard ban - along with Caleb Durbin, now Boston's sparkplug 3B. What a terrible deal. Thank you, Mr. Cashman.
Bad deals never die.
3. Ryan McMahon - the ballplayer, not the Onondaga County (NY) Executive - jammed his thumb sliding into 2B last night. They say x-rays came back negative, but we're reached the point where any injury can knock out a player until next spring. McMahon has disappointed all year. The Yankees don't need another injury, but how hard can it be to replace a guy who's hitting .216?
4. FYI: Down in Scranton, Oswaldo Cabrera is batting .290 and playing 3B. Come on, Yankees, the guy deserves another shot!
5. In some respects, a Yankee sweep tonight might do Baltimore a favor. The dreadful state of the AL has allowed the O's - five games below .500 - to chase that final wild card slot. These last two nights, they sure don't look like a playoff team. Just sayin...
6. Sad to hear Baltimore screaming that MLB should install lasers on the foul lines, because they might have gotten screwed by Pete Alonzo's foul ball/HR last night. Good luck with that. I'm sorry, but baseball doesn't need more technology.
7. Last night for Scranton, Anthony Volpe went 0-4 with three Ks. He's hitting .222. Damn. I hope he can turn around his career, but he really needs to play for a different organization.
8. Also, The Martian, Jasson Dominguez, went 1-3 with a walk. He's hitting .275 for Scranton. It's been a completely lost year. But he's still only 23, two years younger than Spencer Jones.
9. Watching the struggles of Jackson Holliday and Roman Anthony, who is getting another run in Boston, it's remindful of the pressures of being the Number One prospect in baseball. (Or being compared to Jeter; see No. 1.)
10. We're four up on Boston in the loss column. Eleven up on Toronto. We better damn well beat the Jays this weekend. (And they might have Vlad Jr. back. Uh-oh.)
"Bad deals never die."
ReplyDeleteThis is T-Shirt-worthy, El Duque. With the interlocking "NY" on top of it. On the back, you can have a caricature of Cashman's face morphed into Alfred E. Neuman's face. I'm not partial to t-shirts with designs on the back, though, so that could be optional.
Inspiration….
DeleteAlso, if we make the playoffs again - which we will - I guarantee you that Cash's contract will be extended for another 3 to 5 years. This year, he'll point his finger at an AI-generated spreadsheet and say, "Look at the pitching! If Judge hadn't gone down, we'd be the best team in the league by far." The charade continues.

ReplyDelete"but how hard can it be to replace a guy who's hitting .216? "
ReplyDeleteYou'd think right?
All too true, Bitty. And Peerless Leader, I gotta disagree about the lasers. Since the game gets stopped anyway for endless arguments and replays, I'd just as soon see something like that which would signal instantly, fair or foul.
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame that Baltimore didn't get the call. A very great pity.
But what if these lasers were capable of slicing certain coaches, managers and players in half….
DeleteHoss - I know you are being sarcastic but it wasn't as clear cut as the YES angle showed according to Yanks Go Yard
Delete"Conversely, the slow-motion angle taken from behind the plate, following the view of the home plate umpire (posted by MLB Replay's account, powered by Zoom), looks a lot more questionable. The ball may have passed above the pole (for a home run). It also may have passed to the left. It wasn't nearly as clear-cut as the rage-bait angle made it appear.
Hilarious nobody's posting this first slo mo angle https://t.co/eokD7NrHXN

Pete Alonso, furious Orioles fans had a closer call vs. the Yankees than they'd like to admit
Or, if you prefer science, here's the Yankee fan version of Patriots fans quoting the Ideal Gas Law ad nauseam when they walk into a party:

Yes, Oswaldo, please!!
ReplyDeleteMy dream team. An ‘all-homegrown’ Yankees line-up.
1B Rice
2B Volpe
SS Lombard
3B Cabrera
LF Dominguez
CF Jones
RF Judge
C Welles
P Schlittler
P Schmidt
P Warren
How cool would that be?!
Gary, it might be cool but the starting lineup wouldn't be very prodctive. Other than Judge, Rice and Lombard, the others are marginal MLB players at best.
DeleteInteresting line up. You know who else would love it. Cashman and Hal because aside from Judge that lineup costs about buck and a quarter.
DeleteThat would be REALLY cool, Gary! And The Brain could even brag about it.
DeleteWhat I like about Lombard is that he's multi-dimensional with the bat. He can hit it the other way. He can hit it through holes in the shift. He can hit a dribbler and beat it out for a hit, just like Tampa always does against us. He's got power to hit home runs and extra base hits.
ReplyDeleteCan't you just see Yankee management and coaches having meetings about how to ruin him? I'm sure they hate it when he hits it through holes. Or when he hits it the other way for a single. Management here only likes home runs. You can almost see the wheels turning in their evil twisted heads.
The losers actually won two of three. Better than I thought they'd do. But now comes the throwaway, mail-in affair today. Boone will probably rest Lombard, play the "C" lineup.
ReplyDeleteDid ya'll catch the highlights of the Brew Crew's game on Tuesday? They banged out 22 runs on 22 hits! That's a week's worth of hits for us. Meanwhile, the fucking Dodgers' bullpen is looking very vulnerable. Look for the Brew Crew to knock off the fucking Dodgers in the playoffs this year. The Brew Crew are going to the Wold Series!
ReplyDeleteO's complainin' 'bout the (probable) blown call on Alonso's foul home run: shit happens. Exact same thing happened to Aaron Judge in Tampa. Judge hit one very high over the foul pole. Ump called it a foul ball. Then the replay review followed, and they said there was not enough evidence to overturn the call on the field. With Judge's "foul" home run, I think they said the ball actually landed on the fair side of the pole. But it ain't where the ball lands, it's where the ball was when it goes over the fence or over the top of the foul pole. I'm thinkin' the foul pole should be a lot taller. That would make it much easier to make the call correctly.
ReplyDeleteWhat would be cool is if the laser split the ball in half when it passed over it.
ReplyDeleteYou will say nothing!! Nothing you fuckers!!
