Yes We Can

It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a franchise.
Yes we can.
It was whispered by the Babe and the Iron Horse as they blazed a tradition of success.
Yes we can. Yes we can.
It was sung by the centerfielder son of Italian immigrants as he struck out from the West Coast and a legend who pushed eastward from his Oklahoma farm.
Yes we can. Yes we can.
It was the call of a catcher with funny sayings and his own cartoon character;
a high-priced outfielder who hit three homers in a World Series Game;
an owner who chose Macombs Dam Park as our new frontier;
and a Captain who took us to the mountain-top and pointed the way to the Promised Land.
Yes we can to Nick Swisher in the All Star Game.
(yes we can, yes we can, yes we can, yes we can…)

Yes we can to Nick Swisher in the All Star Game.
Yes we can to Nick Swisher in the All Star Game.
Yes we can heal this ballclub.
Yes we can repair this team.
Yes we can. Si Se Puede
(yes we can, yes we can, yes we can, yes we can…)

We know the battle ahead will be long,
but always remember that no matter what obstacles stand in our way,
nothing can stand in the way of the power of millions of voices calling for Girardi to give Veras the hook.
We want Swisher!
(We want Swisher! We want Swisher! We want Swisher…)

We have been told we cannot do this by a chorus of New England cynics who will only grow louder and more dissonant.
We’ve been asked to pause for a reality check.
We’ve been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope.
But in the unlikely story that is the Yankees, there has never been anything false about hope.
(We want Swisher! I want Swisher! We want Swisher! I want Swisher…)

The hopes of the little boy who goes to a crumbling school in the South Bronx are the same as the dreams of the guy who manages the team in LA;
we will remember that there is something happening in America;
that our ballclub is not as crappy as the Gammonites suggests;
that we are one people;
we are one franchise;
and together, we will begin the next great chapter in America’s story with three words that will ring from coast to coast;
from sea to shining sea - Vote! For! Swisher!
(Vote For Swisher, Vote For Swisher, Vote For Swisher, Vote For Swisher, Vote For Swisher, Vote For Swisher, Vote For Swisher, Vote For Swisher…)

    Brilliant!

    Illiterate. Unintelligible. Incomprehensible. But brilliant.
