1. If the owners pull their lockout, there might only be a partial season.
2. If there is a partial season, it might come with a cap on payrolls.
3. If there is a payroll cap, the Yankees will find themselves way over it.
4. If the Yankees are way over the cap, they'll have to cut players.
5. If the Yankees must make cuts, they will face big holes in their lineup.
6. If the Yankees face big holes, Hal will keep Cashman.
7. If Hal keeps Cashman, Cashman will keep Boone.
8. If Cashman keeps Boone, we'll have the same basic team as 2026.
9. If we have the basic same team, nothing will have changed.
10. If nothing changes, the owners will pull their lockout...
See Number One.

Nothing will change whether there's a lock out or not.
If nothing changes, we’ll be right back here next year having this same conversation, just like the one we had last year
That's why I'm hoping they push it until it breaks. Unlikely—but possible! Never underestimate the ability of very rich people to completely fuck up a good thing for themselves (See: Wars, World).
(More) seriously: neither side, I think, remembers how enraged fans were by the 1994 strike. Only the rise of juiced-up ball saved the majors from a serious, extended slough (a dubious rescue, as it would turn out).
This time around? Any extended stoppage of play will lead, I fervently hope, to a real breakdown. Don't know how exactly that will play out, but I'm thinking that there MUST be clauses in all those ballpark subsidies requiring the teams in question to actually play there.
If they don't...couldn't they be appropriated, and rented out to some other entity? Say, a new players' league of some sort?
I'm with you, Hoss, for that exact outcome. In the meantime, it's Groundhog Day for Yankee fans. Now and forever or until Hal exits stage right...
Just a back cover note:
The Giants, who play just 17 games a year are just 9.5 back covers away from passing the Mets who play 162.
Mets : 78.5
Giants: 69 (at roughly the 1/4 point in the season)
The lockout will knock out free agent signings so between now and Dec 31st there is little reason to report on the Mets much less give them a back cover. The Giants should continue to own Mondays.
By comparison. Last year:
Mets: 157
Giants 85
and the year before that
Mets 141.5
Giants 63
From this data we can only conclude...
Knicks in five!
The lockout is all but certain. Teams can sign free agents until the lockout begins on Dec 1st. Anything after that date is a black hole, to be determined via negotiation. Players will not get paid and owners will not receive revenue. My take: Television, gambling sites, etc, will but pressure on both sides to come to an agreement and we will have a shortened season. I’d expect actual MLB games in June, but again, anything is possible.
I'm hoping for a lockout, a strike, an implosion, or all of the above.
By the way, no matter what Cashman does with the roster, if Boone is back, we'll once again fail to win a ring. Because Boone is an idiot.
the yankees would have to honor contracts already made over 300 mil lion i believe
I think cutting Stanton might just accomplish the financial requirement.
I'm sure they'll come up with a grandfather clause for the existing mega-contracts. The new collective bargaining agreement rules will only apply to new contracts.
I'm not so sure the juiced was the difference after the 1994 strike. I have no faith that the fans will ever be sufficiently pissed to stay away. Regardless of who is to blame or how long the impasse lasts. Maybe a longer conflict (A missed season) would produce more thirst and lust for the game.
Also, I don't think another leage is feasible. Well, in theory it is- but the result would be the same as what happened to the Progressive radio network " Air America." Limbaugh, Fox, and a few other right-wing media outlets threatened advertisers that to place ads on that network would ban them from advertising on their platforms. That threat worked very well. MLB would do likewise to potential sponsors if they financially helped the fledgeling league. It's probably not legal to do this, especially if it is explicit. But like 22 years ago when the aforemention event took place, we had a Republican president, so nothing was investigated. Under this crooked admistration and conjoined Justice Dept, I'd have a better chance of being in a threesome with Sydney Sweeney and Taylor Swift than Trump enforcing the law. Except, of course, someone bribed him a lot of money.
The football Giants are also only 4-5 wins from covering the "Over" win total for the season, depending on yor bookie or betting site ( Do people still wager with their neighborhood bookie?). With 12 games remaining and the weak NFC East, I'd say that's a lock.
And vice versa!
If the players lose their ability to ask for any amount of money they want, they should insist on an endless supply of nubile hussies provided free of charge, just like pre-game and post-game meals. I want a pre-game strip show; pre-game massage; pre-game escort service; post-game strip show; post-game massage; post-game escort service at home; six Bond girl type bodyguards trained in juijitsu and Japanese shiatsu massage; and a perfect 10 limo driver in a very skimpy uniform to be personally approved by moi; plus a triple shot of everything on off days. That's what I'd ask for, anyway.
Threesome with Sydney Sweeney and Taylor Swift? Hmmm. That Sydney chick is super hot, but I don't know about Swift. Tall enough, leggy enough, yes, but I'd go with another pick for number 2.
