Why did the Rays revert to the Devil Rays?
Wasn't there an evangelical backlash to the team's original name? And didn't that cause the switch?
Has God forgiven Tampa?
Or is Satan on the loose?

God has not forgiven Tampa and Satan is not on the loose.
I'll be taking further theological questions as requested.
Hey, did ya'll hear? The Pope has lung cancer. Had surgery to remove a nodule, turns out cancerous, and had to get a partial lung removal. God speed your recovery, Your Eminence!
Even The Pope's prayers were not enough for the White Sox to advance, as they got knocked off by the Guardians. Final game of that series, White Sox lost 2-0, if I recall correctly. Yep, pulled a Yankee no show offense in that one! I guess Jim Morrison was right: WE CANNOT PETITION THE LORD WITH PRAYER (at least not in baseball).
Continuing the theological discussion, word is that God, even though He's a Yankee fan, has turned on the Bronx Bombers because they aren't really trying to win. You have to do your utmost to win, that's the only way it'll happen. These half ass winters spent running it back and regular seasons spent doing just enough to make the playoffs, that's not good enough to win championships. The Word of The Lord. Thanks be to God.
So the fundamental question is: are the New York Yankees really "winners", a special franchise that is the ultimate in professionalism and symbolic of the very best in all the world, or are they just ordinary bums like everyone else?
What if God was one of us?
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home
Nobody calling on the phone
Except maybe the Pope in Rome
We're going to get the answer to that question real soon. This very winter, as a matter of fact. And I think we're not going to like the answer we get. Prince Hal is going to come out and admit it: the New York Yankees are just bums, like everyone else.
Kind of like the disappointment you might have felt upon hearing that the Spartans, after all those centuries of swearing to come back, shield raised in Victory, or to come back carried upon it, after all that, they merely surrendered and came back with their tails between their legs. Nothing but a vassal state. Turned out they were nothing but a lot of hot air.
And right here, in the United States of America, our home sweet home, looks like we're about to find out that the freedom of speech, freedom of press, "all men are created equal", "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness", were just a bunch of hot air too. Didn't take much to topple it all. One felonious clown undid all of it, proclaiming himself the greatest President in our history. What can you do, except laugh?
Yep: "God helps those who help themselves."
But as to the (Devil) Rays...from something the broadcasters said last night, it seems that this is yet another effort to raise revenue from gearheads.
Yes, it seems that TB, after declaring that including the word "Devil" in their name was holding them back, and officially changing to just "Rays"...now play every Friday in "Devil Rays" throwback gear.
Wearing the gear in the ALCS—NOT on Friday—is apparently also geared to gear.
Huh. I guess faith only goes runs so deep when it comes to trying to sell stuff.
Cry? Puke? Drink?
To seconds, at the all you can eat High Mass.
Our currency says "in God we trust." So isn't marketing a form of worship?
Just asking.
Uh..theological question here, JM, and I would like to see this as a regular feature, by the way, something like "JM Answers ALL of your questions about God, the Universe, and everything else." Anyway, my question is this: Is Dua Lipa a good or a bad angel? AND, what form of salvation does she offer? AND, if I may, where does Carl Pavano fit into the grand firmament arching over all of us in this YEAR OF OUR LORD, 2026? And, if being a Yankee fan is living in Groundhog Day now, where does the Groundhog bit into this picture? I know that's a lot. I'm happy to have just one of those questions answered. I need to sleep again at night.
