Welcome back, Domingo, and what is there to complain about?

No guarantees, but the Death Star now has a legitimate candidate to start Game One of its inevitable October showdown against Chris Sale/Jason Verlander.

Domingo German is that pitcher, and whenever he starts, just as some aces have a favorite catcher, his personal third-baseman should be "Sit and Deliver" Gio Urshela.

In case you missed it, Gio last night made several spectacular plays, including one where he ranged to his left, dove to the ground and gunned out the batter from the seat of his pants. It was similar to a play made Tuesday by Gleyber Torres, turning a single into a DP and temporarily saving the bacon of James "Big Maple" Paxton.

Then there was the near home run from Joggy Cano, speared by a leaping Aaron Hicks in the deepest part of center, and the slicing liner that Aaron Judge snared in London. From the surprisingly stretchable Luke Voit - whom we wrongly assumed would go clank at 1B - to the evolving self-redemption of Gary Sanchez behind the plate, the Yankees can field a solid defense, though it belies some of the stats.

I looked it up. The Yankees are second to last in MLB in the number of errors committed, (66), ahead of only lowly Seattle (with 88.) Urshela has 12, Sanchez 11. (For Gary, most came early in the season, when his throws to second were Frisbee-ing to Chicago. Gio had a bad run a few weeks ago.) The numbers will probably cost both a shot at Golden Gloves. All I know is what I've seen: A highlight-reel play in nearly every outing.

This is weird. I don't know what to rant about. We lost one game to the Mets while jet-lagged from the London trip. So what? There must be a crisis brewing somewhere. Wait a minute! What about Cameron Maybin! What will they do when he returns? And where the hell is Thairo Estrada? Can't they find a place for him? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH CASHMAN!

Today, it's J.A. Happ, the Cashman-acquisition who draws most of our dwindling supply of bile. He'll face the Devil Rays, who are making their last stand. They are eight behind in the loss column, and they'll play us eight times this month. Do the match. To destroy them, we don't need to sweep them. And we don't need to wail at the gods after each loss - (no, I take that back; change nothing! Scream and invoke hell after each loss.) This is weird. Eight games up in the loss column. Let's enjoy it, while it lasts. And welcome home, Domingo. Game One Starter.

This is wrong on so many levels. DO NOT let your guard down. Every loss is is a soul-sucking tragedy, and each less-than-optimum outcome on the field is a personal insult from Yankee management. To treat them as minor inconveniences leads to humiliation and collapse. Remember, Boston was 14 games up on July 18, 1978.

DOMINGO HAS 10 WINS AND MISSED A BUNCH OF STARTS.

I DON'T CARE WHAT KIND OF BULLSHIT STATS YOU THROW IN FRONT OF ME, REGARDING A PITCHER'S "MEANINGLESS" WIN/LOSS RECORD, (IN TODAY'S GAME)....

10 WINS BEFORE THE ALL STAR BREAK IS 10 WINS.

DEGROM TOOK ALL SEASON TO WIN 10 LAST YEAR.

HAPPY 4TH EVERYONE.

What's to complain about? The master is out. The Death Star announced he will have an unspecified 'procedure'. From USA yesterday:

"And it will not be a one-day absence; Sterling will miss the Yankees’ entire four-game game series against the Rays, and then will get an additional four days off for the All-Star break. He will miss another game on July 16, when the Yankees face the Rays at home, to have a medical procedure performed that he hopes will set him right for the rest of the season."

The box from the last game he missed:

Some forgotten names in that line-up. Take a look at those batting averages.

And Gleyber. He is growing up before our eyes. Mature at bats Modest swings with runners in scoring position. More consistent in the field, with flashes of excellence. Were it not for the fact that there exists no known Black Swan Repellent, no known ritual to escape the Curse of Ellsbury, he might already be ticketed for a plaque in Monument Park.

“There must be a crisis brewing somewhere”. That pretty much sums up my feeling after every Yankee win, the feeling that the other shoe is about to drop at any moment no matter how well things seem to be going. Best record in the AL? Won 14 out of the last 15 games? German comes back strong? Why can’t I shake the feeling that it’s all gonna come crashing down at any moment?

Remember, compadres - if you want to join us at the Stadium on August 12th, please see the link of the blog and sign up by tomorrow. After that, we are locked down - not to be confused with "in lockdown mode" - and will then be trying to get the best tickets for the least money from the vassals of Lord Hal. Sign up by tomorrow! It will be fun and a good chance to get sloshed, overeat, and engage in witty repartee with fellow; blog habitués. ONE FOR ALL, ALL FOR ONE!

Happy Fourth to you, ALL-CAPS, and to all the rest of the gang. And you're right, Parson Tom—never let up.

Between Chapman's wildness and Cessa's incompetence (When will the Cessa experiment finally end?)I'll be polishing off my fifth on the Fourth.
