Crazy how it took 165 games for the Yankees to realize Stopgap-Falefa is not the answer, the answer being Peraza who is buried somewhere in Jersey I presume, with the result being Cabrera having to step in because Marwin is invisible forcing Boone to play Hicks in the most important game of the year.
I want to listen to John and Susyn via my SiriusXM app, but the app is nearly 2 minutes behind the TV and I don't want to be that far behind, so it's Costas and company. Oh, well.
Somewhere, but I'd have to hunt it out of the closet, and that might take a bit. I can't remember the last time I listened to an actual radio that wasn't in my car.
Guten tag, volks. I’m quite happy about he rainout yesterday: this’ll be like staying up for a west coast game. No TV feed, so I’m also about a batter behind.
Starting to think it doesn’t matter what Stanton does all season - just roll him out for the playoffs.
Correction ... the cord just needed to be fiddled with a bit. Got it working, and the TV and radio are synched. So, Bob Costas has been relieved by John Sterling.
Though Costas actually had a useful bit of information: This is Reggie Day. October 18, 1977, 3 home runs against the Dodgers. 45 years ago. (Fuck, we're old!)
And Darling had a good quote: When Reggie was asked where a ball he hit was, he said, "Fence high."
I have to admit I feel bad for Hicks. That was not his fault, he would have caught that ball. An innocent victim of an overly aggressive rookie. I don't blame Oswaldo either, he is doing the best he can in a big spot. Shame on the Yankees for having to resort to putting a raw rookie in the short-stop position in an elimination game.
Also, is there a more annoying ballplayer on this planet than Josh Donaldson?
He hit what even I could tell on the TV was your basic can o' corn, but stood there at the plate with his arms, bat, and eyes lifted to the heavens, as if perhaps waiting for the jet he hit to come crashing down.
The Yankees are up by 4 runs with three innings left. They need to replace Marwin.
So they move Cabrera to left field (where he's not that great), and bring in IKF at short (where he hasn't been that great).
Why, with a four-run lead, would you make moves to make yourself WORSE defensively at TWO positions? Why not just bring in Locastro, a defensive UPGRADE, and stick him in left?
What, we need to save Locastro for "emergency" pinch-running?????
I love John Sterling but he’s scaring me. We’ve got three outs left and he’s acting like we have this all sewn up. In his mind we’re playing the Indians, so he must think Rivera is coming in the 9th.

Yeah, Torres' baby taunt after the last out was immature and I wish he didn't do that, but Naylor kind of asked for it with the goofy taunt on his HR earlier in the series.
And yes, Torres is immature. BUT...that was really outrageous by Naylor, particularly in a game his team was still losing.
Back in the day, could you imagine someone taking, say, Bob Gibson or Don Drysdale deep, and doing that? They would have been hit in the head every time they were up for a year. And his own teammates would've approved of it.

I don't think the Yankees have much of a chance. But momentum aside, I think MAYBE a bigger thing is that both Judge and Stanton seem to be regaining their strokes. And a key hit from Rizzo!
If those three get going, the Yanks might—MIGHT—have a chance. Still a huge longshot. But...if they're all hitting together...
Also, while I never like to see anyone injured, Hicks going out should actually be an advantage, especially if they're smart enough to put Peraza on the roster.
Have to disagree with you guys on Torres. That was awesome. Full disclosure, didn't mind Naylor doing it either. Let them have fun. However, Naylor looked dumb doing his, because they were losing AND lost the game. Torres waited for the win for his. Perfect.

Nasty Nester to the Native Americans of Cleveland,
"Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat. No Spidetac up my sleeve."
I want to listen to John and Susyn via my SiriusXM app, but the app is nearly 2 minutes behind the TV and I don't want to be that far behind, so it's Costas and company. Oh, well.
Hey Bern - How about an old-school transistor radio? Have any of those in the back of the closet?
Judge struck out on a 78-mph change-up. NOT a good start.
Somewhere, but I'd have to hunt it out of the closet, and that might take a bit. I can't remember the last time I listened to an actual radio that wasn't in my car.
Giancarlo! Non si puo stoparlo!
A “STANTONIAN BLAST!”
GIAN MUTHA FUCKIN CARLO SO NICE OF YOU TO SHOW UP TODAY....
Cleveland Jardiance.
Three runs! And Crusty legs out a hit!
Tweet from @AndrewSimonMLB: Nobody has hit more HR in his first 23 career postseason games than Giancarlo Stanton.
He now has 11, tied with Carlos Beltrán.
Guten tag, volks. I’m quite happy about he rainout yesterday: this’ll be like staying up for a west coast game. No TV feed, so I’m also about a batter behind.
Starting to think it doesn’t matter what Stanton does all season - just roll him out for the playoffs.
The real question is why doesn't Stanton keep his front leg down all the time. When he does he's a different hitter. so why not all the time?
Francesa's right. I don't remember Costas being a babbling idiot, but here we are.
Nestor averaging three pitches per out.
@Mildred...someone on twitter the other day said that listening to Costas was like listening to a Ken Burns documentary...
Nasty N:
2 innings pitched
18 pitches thrown
13 for strikes
Keep it up, Mr Nestor.
Love hearing that big, Yankee Stadium roar at the end of each inning.
But half the fans they show look sick. I know what they're thinking: Need more run...need more runs...need more runs...
Exactly Sir Stang . . .
Hey, ranger! Don't insult Ken Burns!
HC -
If you're sick the last thing you're going to be wanting is more RUNS
Keep it up Nestor is right. Like Cole the other night we need the maximum length from the starter.
Judge!!!
The Twin Towers come through.
Judge and Stanton homering in the playoffs. What we envisioned when we signed Stanton all those years ago.
"Francesa's right"
I must have had a mild aneurysm when I typed that
All Rise!
AA, ICWYDT
thanks JM :)
And I dug the old radio out of the closet, and turns out it's busted.
Oh, well. I just head to the SiriusXM app after the homers to listen to Sterling's call. "A Judgian Blast!"
THIS is more like it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ranger...but when you're listening to a Ken Burns documentary you put it on there to listen to a Ken Burns documentary
I'd like Costas to just take a breath, shut up for a while let us watch the game. If I turn it down the sound in here is my dog snoring.
Good play by Hicks holding that to one base.
Hicks made a good play…
Correction ... the cord just needed to be fiddled with a bit. Got it working, and the TV and radio are synched. So, Bob Costas has been relieved by John Sterling.
Nice play by Hicks?
Though Costas actually had a useful bit of information: This is Reggie Day. October 18, 1977, 3 home runs against the Dodgers. 45 years ago. (Fuck, we're old!)
And Darling had a good quote: When Reggie was asked where a ball he hit was, he said, "Fence high."
Good going Bern. I need to get a cord, these AA batteries are getting expensive.
Wtf? That was embarrassing. Hicks looks hurt.
Hicks is down
Oswaldo. Damn kid.
John is disgusted. "How do you like that? Dropped by 3 people! I've never seen a team drop so many pop outs"
Was that really a fair ball? Could've fooled me.
Hicks does good, so gets hurt.
Oh shit, not Marwin. Ffs.
Bye Hicks
Lots of love for Hicks from his fellow players as he left the field
They should check the foul ball/fair ball. But that would mean boone was awake.
So nobody can say anything to Cabrera like, "Let the vets call it"?
Should have been Hicks' ball. And of course, Donaldson has to be out there, making an ass of himself.
This is like a recurring nightmare. Another big stoppage, just when Nestor was rolling.
You could call taking Hicks out an accomplishment. Oswaldo continues to impress.
Guess that collision was the interruption Nestor watchers were pointing out here today.
And Hicks cannot continue. So they put in...Gonzalez. Oy.
That was me, JM.
So now instead of a good glove, no hit left fielder, we have a no glove, no hit left fielder.
keep Nestor going
Nice recovery by Nestor. But yet ANOTHER run because our guys can't catch a pop-up to short left field. Unbelievable.
And now Cleveland, seeing a chance to steal it after all, starts to roll in the top relievers.
Oh, look: guys who can converge and manage to catch a ball!
Say, who was the guy in the Donaldson mask who was busting it down the first line?
Wow, another perfectly executed catch in left field. How do the Guardians do that?
Got away with one there. He was safe.
Can they challenge after the commercial?
Yeah, yet ANOTHER botched, fundamental play. We really got a break there. I guess Francona didn't want to risk losing his challenge, but oy.
Trevino and Marwin just can't hit. Though it's nice of Bob to tell us how good Marwin was five years ago.
Trevino is clutch but GAHDAMN his in between at bats are painful....when can we get an actual catcher....you know like fuckin Realmuto who we spit on
All those guys peddled away because "we don't want to lose them to the Rule V draft." And...we lose Stephan to the Rule V draft.
Okay.
This is the inning of truth. Nestor buzzes through here and it's not like it's over, but it's a big step.
LETS GO NESTOR!
NICE...recovery by NASTY.
1 more for Nestor? He's only at 60 pitches.
At least 1 more by Nasty
MORE RUNS MORE RUNS MORE RUNS MORE RUNS MORE RUNS MORE RUNS MORE RUNS MORE RUNS MORE RUNS
Sorry, I know that sounds a lot like "morons." Don't want Cashman or Boone to think anyone is calling for them.
61 pitches through five. That’ll do pig. That’ll do.
More on Runs later, But now THIS:
We'll need 6 to win.
Did Gleyber just steal second base?
Aw, hell. First Judge doesn't get the walk, then another strikeout. They really have his number this series.
HC - that was a great pitch he struck out on.
Boonie's looking ahead I fear.
Is Goone going to take out Nestor? John seems to think so.
Rizzo
True, AA. I think Tito might've pulled Stephan a little early.
I’m praying Booooooone gets tossed.
In the East River.
Yep, Nestor is gone.
Mistake to pull Nestor now. We don't have the horses to take us the rest of the way.
So much for that idea
NO no no - not in the East River - Down that WELL I read about in a touching poem yesterday
And...yet another birdbrain play by Torres, rushing over to block Cabrera, but not making the play himself.
Idiot Boone and his Loaisiga obsession
Sooooo.. just got home from work. I see they pulled Nestor. He must have been really struggling.
If it’s going to be the east river, let it be up by the Spuyten Duyval where the currents can kill a man
So, after 45 consecutive lucky breaks in this series, the Guardians get a bad one and Naylor is just shaking his head. Yeah, way it goes.
Got help Boone if this goes sideways. River, well, the depths of hell...
YEE-HA! JOHNNY LASAGNA! UNHITTABLE PITCH!
Daddy Stache!!!!
John called Rizzo "Rizzuto". Been waiting for that for two years.
Only the Yankees could manage to pull off a successful hit-and-run where the lead runner doesn't get past second.
Terrible hitting by Porn Stach and Gleyber.
And the big defensive move is Cabrera to left and Falafel to short? Oh, this should be classic!
Wait a minute ....
Yeah, terrible move.
And can Cleveland get any MORE jerk off dribble hits? Holy shit.
Almost another. Nice arm by T. E. A. Donaldson.
Well, Horace, when you can’t get to first base, jerking off is the way to go.
Man oh man Donaldson is a poor third baseman.
That would be a good name for them. The Cleveland Jerk Off Dribble Hits. Think of the logo possibilities.
I can work on one of those . . .
QUESTION:
Who is the MVP of this series?
Bader?
Stanton?
Nestor?
Cole?
Hicks?
Why does the infield fly rule not apply there? Glad Rizzo kept running, though.
AA, those shadows suddenly rising behind you...those are the juju gods!
Has to be two guys on to avoid the cheap double play. with one guy on it's just a simple force out.
Re: MVP, AA, I’d surprise myself and pick Cole.
The infield fly rule needs two guys on.
MVP at the moment? Rizzo: is 4 for 14 with 3 RBI's and a bunch of good plays.
Sure LOCK Holmes . . . not bad
WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS??? YOU'RE PRACTICALLY CALLING THEM TO COME AND FEED!!!!!
Helluva nice pitch by Holmes on Rosario.
And another out!
My vote for MVP and I’m surprised myself to say it’s …Cole!
Costas thinks we lost the WS in 09. Ok.
I just threw a few hundred pounds of raw steak at those shadows - they'll be occupied for hours
Costas mangling Yankee history with his WS comments
Said we haven't won since the the threepeat.
Luetge for MVP. Not one mistake in five games.
I am not warming up my vocal cords. I. Am. Not.
Right you are, 999. Bobby Talk-talk can't even get the recent history right.
Ralph plunked.
I love John Sterling but he’s scaring me. We’ve got three outs left and he’s acting like we have this all sewn up. In his mind we’re playing the Indians, so he must think Rivera is coming in the 9th.
Why would anyone put on a hit and run with Trevino up?
He did say Indians, Beau.
How is it possible that Boone has ONLY Peralta warming up? How about everybody remaining in the pen?
If you cant beat ‘em, hit ‘em.
Plus Cole?
Uh. Uhuh.
No.
Stop.
Here we go boys....
No second look at the play at second?
Everyone knows it's uh-uh-uh Wandy.
Uh.
Fuck.
Look, Tink, it's Wandy!!
Cole warming.
Cole really wants that MVP
Wandy pitching and Cole is up in the pen.
Not sure how I feel about all that.
Cole in the pen? Better than Cole in your stocking.
On a side note, I love the "Who's Your Daddy?" chants to Naylor.
Th-uh.
Memememeeee.
Another dribble hit.
UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How many dribblers, pop ups, etc??????
another piddle splash single
Oh, Gleyber. I think he would've beat it out anyway, though.
John is flabbergasted at how many soft roller hits the Guardians get.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
If they bring in cole they are nuts!
Gimemenz, GRAB SOME BENCH!!
Bern,
The Indian war chant was pretty good too...
Another GREAT pitch!
Peralta has been damn good.
If this had been a better team than Cleveland, the Yankees would’ve gone home by now
Those dribblers would’ve turned into doubles in home runs, and probably will when we get to Houston
NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
An actual hit.
YES
FUCK.

Whew!
John with an inspired Win Warble.
Never win mean.
Why the Naylor taunt?
Now they can reset the roster! Add Peraza!
Who's your Daddy??
Torres is immature.
WHAT A WARBLE!
Trade Torres for that alone.
The Master warbles!! More games with Judge in Pinstripes!!
Naylor mocked Cole after a home run with a I'm your daddy "rock the baby" gesture as he ran around the bases.
MVP?
Yup, Torres is immature. I feel like he may be around here for a long time, lets hope he grows up.
Second best news of the day -- CostASS will be in the studio, not doing play by play for the ALCS.
Doug, he did that at the All Star game, too. That's not a Yankee specific gesture. Naylor just does that when he homers.
Just finished dinner...did miss anything...lol?
Nestor.
Mr Nasty was great
Just another night Ranger!
Question - who has the advantage in game 1: Houston because they are rested or the Yankees because they have momentum?
Don't complain too much about Costas. It could be Joe Buck and the Yankees hater.
Yeah, Torres' baby taunt after the last out was immature and I wish he didn't do that, but Naylor kind of asked for it with the goofy taunt on his HR earlier in the series.
Yes! And I also like Cole for series MVP. (They don't have one, do they?) And I thought it was a good move for Boone to have him up, just in case.
In the year of Timmy Anderson's fake outrage, it was a fitting climax. Don't call yourself "Jackie Robinson" when you're not. Don't say you're Gerrit Cole's daddy unless you want to pay the price.
Payback is a bitch
And good question, mik.
We did get a break with them starting Civale. Houston won't start anyone that bad against us.
On the other hand, Cleveland should not really have scored a run today. And nobody is going to pitch better than that.
Have to disagree with you guys on Torres. That was awesome. Full disclosure, didn't mind Naylor doing it either. Let them have fun. However, Naylor looked dumb doing his, because they were losing AND lost the game. Torres waited for the win for his. Perfect.
I notice in the player interviews no one compliments Boone.
Compare to the Giants and Daboll (I know the football coach is more important, but still.)
I'm with Platoni on the baby naylor.
I'm with Doug on Boone having nothing to do with the win (at least by reading his players' quotes).
Not sure what it's worth, but I'm 100% with Platoni.
