A Pleasant Diversion : Attention drinkers

I have recently discovered ( or rediscovered if I am to be accurate) a great cocktail for Yankee woes.

It was " invented" in Paris, in 1918, just after the end of WWI. About when I was born.

It is called, " The Sidecar."  Named after the famously designed motorcycle with the sidecar attachment.

It consists of brandy, orange liquor ( Cointreau, Grand Marnier, Triple Sec, or Dry Curaçao ) plus lemon juice.

It is best served straight up, without ice,  in a glass one might use for a manhattan.

Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice, shake well and strain into cocktail glass.

Basically:

- 5 parts cognac

- 2 parts triple sec

-2 parts lemon juice

Timing : All Day.  Added benefit;  Loved by all genders.

See you in Camden Yards.

Some believe that The Side Car was the inspiration for the Margarita. It's possible. I think that tonight I shall assemble a Corpse Rejuvenator. It's like an elegant lemon Italian Margarita or Side Car. I have mentioned it before in this Most Noble of Blogs.

In the meantime, I will listen to Rockpile and warm up The Pants.

HICKS NEEDS WRIST SURGERY!!!

On one hand, thank God.
On the other, what a fucking waste of money and only 5.5 more years.

Hicks. With bones like sticks.

Hicks is hurt, Stanton out of lineup with left quad tightness. All is right with the world

A friend of mine got fired for drinking 'mind erasers' with everyone at the bar -- in sequence, not en masse. He said something wrong to the bartender about what he'd like to do with her later, thinking he was amorous. This was at a company remote meeting in a nice hotel. He was an ex-employee by morning.

I will never drink one again.

When a team has a three-run maximum, shouldn't a mercy rule take effect when the opposing team scores four?

Love drinks with names. Though I prefer a Manhattan.

So the Mantle Clock on Stanton:

Games missed, first 12 full major-league years and counting:

Stanton: 496
Mantle: 174

O-kay.

My cocktail of choice is a Negroni:

1 part gin (preferably Bombay)
1 part Campari
1 part sweet (red) vermouth (Cinzano rosso, if you can)

Stir - do not shake! - over ice and strain into a classic martini glass; garnish with a slice of orange or some lemon peel.

One of the stories about the origins of the Negroni says that when American soldiers liberated Italy in WWII, they were enticed by this strange Campari stuff, mixed with Cinzano, and that became known as an Americano. But the Black soldiers wanted gin added to the mix, and this became known as the Negroni.

In fact, I'm gonna shut down the Camden Yards Massacre and go make a pitcher of 'em! Glad I saw a bag of lemons in the fridge.

Here's to all you guys, who are much more fun than baseball used to be.

Yankee official MLB website: "All rise! Then rise again!"

Isn't that from a bread recipe?

Well, then.

You know, I'm not much for mixed drinks (most liquors are just fine neat or chilled), but if I do, when in Europe I take vodka and bitter lemon(ade). Or good old Old Fashioned when in the States

On a different topic, today's AB by Urshela that led to that 3R HR was an absolute masterpiece. When he's on, it's a sight to behold

Wow, did you see THAT?!?! Andujar and Red BOTH slapped singles in the same game! MIT has calculated that the odds are slightly higher than seeing a conjunctivitis between Mercury and Thermomitis.

Shut up, Kevin. We know you hate young players and love the imbecile Cashman--birds of a feather and all that. Please shrivel up and die already.

HoraceClarke66 said...

I agree, Kevin. The odds on that are beyond even the Knick having a good team.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Amazing. I turned that game on, saw it was 2-1, good guys, and I thought, 'Yanks might win."

A little later, I turned it on again, saw it was 4-2, Baltimore, and I thought, 'Yanks can't possibly win."

Then we won, anyway. Well, good.

All seems a mess. Hicks it out for how many week? Time for Estevan! I hear he has a high ceiling...

HC 66 -- The odds of two good young players having a hit each in a game are just SO ASTRONOMICAL. You need to shut up, too, HC66. sip your Namenda-laced herb tea and find a new hobby--something other than obsessively spewing philisting ignorance in the guise of baseball wisdom.

I find great satisfaction watching young players develop into stars. I've watched and enjoyed the phenomena for decades. Pal, you've only READ about it, because you've tacked your wagon to donkeys. You have no eye for talent, worse you have zero understanding of the game. Now go pop some more pimples and watch ESPN. Read some Bill James, especially the "Abstracts". Now fl, Fl, fly away, you can't dig what we all say.

That kid is so easily baited, I almost feel that I'm lashing at a straw man.

TheWinWarblist said...

Kevin, I see what you did there.

Kevin said...

Poor guy, really. I need to just ignore him entirely. He just gets so vile with others.......

HoraceClarke66 said...

Yeah, I love watching young players develop, too, Kevin. Which is why it has been so irritating watching the Yanks botch that of late.
