—-OT—- has anyone watched Reggie on Prime? The intro has a clip from Old Timer’s Day, and it sure sounds like John Sterling, but they did something to his voice. It has to be him, but it doesn’t sound exactly like him.
I wish players still had his swagger. It’s Jeter’s fault. Everyone plays it like Jeter, nobody is Reggie anymore.
Incompetence will never get Cashman fired. But losing a service year by promoting Volpe now might. Let me qualify my statement: Hal won't fire The Brain over this. At least not now because he's in year 1 of a 5-year contract. And Hal won't take that financial hit. But know that Hal has this move filed away in his memory bank for future retribution.
Volpe gives fans a new reason to watch. Increase ratings and attendance. He also changes the narrative that we are old and fragile. New blood. New life.
His will be the number one or two selling jersey this year. By far.
Hal will make more than enough money off him plus, five years is a long time in sports.

Peraza is getting sent down. Too bad, but it's better for him than sitting on the bench.
Oh, and to move up the answer I gave in the Comments on the last post:
Excellent question, ranger. In regard to Matsui being the last guy with no previous major-league experience to make the roster on Opening Day, depends if you count the Japanese leagues.
If not, then maybe the last one is...Masahiro Tanaka, in 2014.
Otherwise..I THINK you have to go all the way back to the disastrous Christian Parker start in 2001. Three innings, seven earned runs, rotator cuff shot. That was his entire time in the majors.
I could easily be missing a middle reliever or two, but I think that's it.

Happy for him...Cabrera made the roster also...
Great - now let’s get some pitchers

We really need a super cheesy HR call for this guy. How about… Everybody have fun in Watchung tonight

Beau,
I had it earlier as...
Sterling sings: When a guy hits a ball
That goes over the wall... that's aVolpe.
Suzyn: That's aVolpe.
We can only hope.
How about a play on the Prince Spaghetti commerical
Anthony!!! It's Volpe Home Run Day!!!
That’d irk ‘em in Boston
Ha...exactly...
They secretly filmed him getting the news in Boone's office. Be a terrific comedy sketch, so MANY ways that could've gone wrong. Still, great to see.
I know what you're sayin', Beauregard. Loved Reggie's swagger–and performance.
But...I wish they had Jeter's fire, too.

Creating a HR call for Volpe is harder than it looks. The Master certainly has his work cut out for him.
The best I could do involves a quasi-word:
Oh, Volpe leaves us palpy.
Meh. Like many here, I'll keep at it.
"Knocks it pulpy"?
I know, I know...
How about Sterling sings to the tune of “Volare” —
“Vo-OHL-pay oh, oh,
Go-OHL-pay oh, oh, oh …”
I think “golpe” means “hit” in Italian.
