In their first face-off with a real contender, the Yankees look toothless

 Maybe they'll win today, behind Gerrit Cole, but this is how they looked last night.

LeMahieu will sit Saturday against the Blue Jays.
Impact After starting five straight games at the hot corner, LeMahieu served as the designated hitter Friday and will now get a full rest the next day. He's striking out at a 29.9 percent clip this season, more than double his career 14.7 percent mark, but his overall .237/.328/.458 slash line is good for a 122 wRC+. Oswald Peraza will get the start at third base.

Notice that he's doubling his career K rate this year. And his batting average is way below his lifetime BA of .296. There is something wrong with DJ physically or at least a nagging injury the Yankees are keeping mum about.

My 2 cents:
Toronto is the first “good” team we played and we were not competitive. The corporate line, as disseminated by the declining Michael Kay, seems to be that the team just needs to stay around .500 and when the injured players return the team will take off like a rocket (not the Elon Musk kind) while TB falls to earth (like the Elon Musk kind) If we lose today, we will certainly get swept with the hapless Schmidt starting tomorrow. The panty wearers in analytics are permitting boone to start 4 LH hitters against Massive Manoah today. Will it help? Maybe! That 300 pounder is starting for my woe begone fantasy team today, a sure kiss of death ☠️.

Yes, he is, Carl Weitz. And the Yankees and DJ have known this since last season, but made the decision NOT to correct the injury in question, but have him play through it.

Another brilliant decision.

And while Cabrera is off to a slow start, hitting .233 with a .571 OPS, he has stolen 3 bases in as many attempts, homered, doubled twice, driven in 6 runs, and can play almost any position on the field.

Hicks is hitting .125 with 3 singles and 1 RBI, and he can't even play left field anymore.

Hmm, tough choice there.

Does anyone think that maybe playing six different positions is detrimental to a guy's hitting? Excuse me if you think that I'm being ridiculous, but I don't think that playing Cabrera at almost position is such a hot idea. And then people wonder why he doesn't hit? It's got to be pretty tough to prepare defensively for all those positions. He won't have as much time to work on his hitting. And Cabrera is a switch hitter too. So he has to work on his hitting from both sides, which takes twice as much time as a one-sided hitter. And one of these days, you know he'll have a nightmare game defensively. And then I'm sure Axisa and other idiots will say he needs more seasoning in AAA. What a joke!

Gleyber Torres: According to Waldman, Ba-Boone says that Gleyber thinks he is invisible sometimes on the basepaths. I don't know if I've ever heard that said of any other player. How many times is Torres going to get thrown out trying to steal this year? He thinks he is Louie Lightfoot. He should look in the mirror. He hasn't got the sleek lines of a young thoroughbred colt. He looks a bit on the heavy side and shouldn't be trying to steal. Especially on a home run or nothing team. Ba-Boone should do his managerial duty, take Torres aside, and tell him that. But ... we live in Yankee Wonderland, where the White Knight is talking backward, and Alice is ten feet tall, so I guess Ba-Boone is not really a manager. Well, he is the manager, but he doesn't manage. Yankee Wonderland.

Axisa isn't an idiot. He's one of the best out there.

That said, you make a good point that having to train and practice at so many positions could have an overall negative effect.

Last night: notice the Blue Jays do it right with Vlad the Impaler hitting #3. They have the home run hitters in the 3 and 4 slots.

Yankees get Judge leading off the 9th inning and he singles. Only to get erased on a double play to end it. By the way, you don't even want your club hitting in the 9th inning at home. It means, logically speaking, that you're either tied or losing.

Well, so far this year, Rizzo is actually having the better year with the bat. So maybe Rizzo should hit #3. As most of us thought, Judge, so far at least, not really having the same offensive impact as last year.
