Now We Know

 ...Nothing Has Changed.

For the first (9) games of the season, we hit well and pitched well ( usually ) and sported a 6-3 record.  We felt like things were moving.  Volpe and Cabrera were exciting.

Yesterday, we returned to the Yankee normal.

1.  We scored early, but failed to " blow the game open" ( could have had 4 runs with one clutch hit ).

2.  We hit zero HRs, which meant we could only score the 2 runs. We never scored again.

3.  We failed at the big moment. ( "Gift" triple with no outs and we cannot advance the runner ).  That ended the game, right there.

4.  The line-up featured four real players:

Torres - still red hot

Judge - MVP

Rizzo - quality ballplayer

Stanton - streaky but currently hot

Everyone else is basically a warm body who threatens no one.   A few have had the occasional good game, but yesterday, they were " flaky and the four toads."  No one in the bottom of that line-up is dependable or clutch.  Not a single  " big moment" player in the bunch.

6.  Starting pitching gave little length.  Worn out bullpen made one mistake.  But when the Yankees are in their " get 2 runs early and go home" mode, one mistake is deadly.

This is mostly what we saw in the second half of last season, after our jaw dropping start.

This year, Tampa is having the jaw dropping start.

This was the loss that told the team, " you aren't going anywhere."

LINEUP FOR TONIGHT:

Yep, ten games in, and the crystal ball is clear. At best, they might scrounge their way to the wild card, but they'll get the woodshed treatment there and that'll be that for 2023. At worst, they might finish in 3rd place, behind the Jays and the Tampons.

Did Lorna Boone really sit Stanton for Hicks?

The Archangel said...

Please give Boonie a break. That grass in Cleveland is very sharp and Stanton needs a rest day after being on it last night.

Rumor is that Cole will bat and Hicks will not.

COME ON EVERYONE! - let's be positive here.

Can't you see what the Bumbling, Bubbling, Seed-Spitting, Aaron "Gosh You Sure Are A Genius" Boone is doing here?

By having Hicks in the lineup tonight, not only is he assured of triggering that Cole man-child tantrum - but again, if my calculations are correct, there is a substantially increased likelihood that Hicks will tweak himself.

He's due.

He's past due.

The IL awaits another Yankee.

And honestly, between Hicks and Stanton, I'd rather it be Hicks.

(although we all know both will be down at some point)

So the questions I have are:

1) In which inning will Hicks hurt himself?

2) What part of his body will get tweaked?

PLEASE no wagering.

Franch-kissed. My knob.

Apparently, no one on this ream is capable of scoring from second on a hit.
Station to Station baseball.

I like it, Beau.

Well played Beau!

A momentarily effective, switch hitting 6th outfielder. What a luxury. That Cash, he knows what he's doing.

Has Cole pulled his shit together??

TheWinWarblist said...

Tampa is laying the hurt on the Red Socks.

Tampa is pulling away and it doesn't matter how early it is. A big lead is a big lead. That's what we did last year, what the Tigers did in, what, '86?

Suzyn interviewed Oswaldo. He’s wonderful.

Worst possible game--Calhoun and Cordero get big hits. With the Cashman/Boone recency bias kicking in, it will be a half season before their inherent awfulness registers in the befogged crania of the management duo. Matt Carpenter redux--these Cashman junkpile bargains always revert to the mean mean.

And...Carlos "Charles Atlas" Rodon joins the ever-growing list of Yankees Injured While Rehabbing.

Back tightness, it seems has now afflicted Mr. Atlas in his recovery from a forearm strain. What next? I predict diphtheria.

HC66,
Rodon; Crotch Rot?
Tripped over his dog?
Slept in an airport?
Tried to benchpress Montas during rehab?
