In October, will the Yankees try an "Operation: Hail Aaron?"

According to the Yankees - whose pristine record of delivering the raw truth would rival that of Baghdad Bob, if he worked for Microsoft - Giancarlo Stanton has been spotted "running the bases and doing agility drills in the outfield."

Altogether now: Hooray.

So, he's running the bases and doing cardio?

Can he open a 24-ounce snack pack of Fritos?

Could someone - anyone - kindly explain to me why we should anticipate the return of Giancarlo Stanton?

Before continuing, a caveat:

Honestly, I don't seek to impugn Stanton, who is clearly injured. To my knowledge, nobody has ever spotted him break-dancing in clubs after midnight. He's just a huge, tightly-wound, electrified cadaver, who risks a barking binky with every swing of his Bababook and who - at the unmerciful age of 36 - has the health record of someone who just visited a Ruby Tuesday's salad bar full of diarrhea lettuce.

Supposedly, he'll be back in early September.

So, what then?

Despite those agility drills, there is no way Stanton will play the OF. Ever. He's a DH, pure and simple, and any ground ball off his bat is a DP that your gramma could turn. Stanton will return a few days before Aaron Judge, who in a perfect world would be the DH. But to keep Stanton in the lineup, and pray for his good health, the Yankees will have to play Judge in RF.

Considering that Cody Bellinger should return next week, will the Yankees shoot the moon?

Could they run an "Operation: Hail Aaron?" That would put Judge in RF, Bellinger in LF, Grisham in CF, and Stanton as DH. First base would be Ben Rice, unless his batting struggles continue - in which case, gulp, would they try him at catcher? For months now, the idea has been that Rice is too valuable a hitter to subject to the rigors of catching. But that argument requires Rice to hit - something he hasn't done that since that awful Home Run Derby. (Note to self: The last two Yankees to take part in the HR massacre were Rice and Jazz Chisholm, and both have tanked ever since.) I'm not sure about his defense, but even a slumping Rice would bring more offense than Austin Wells. Would the Yankees try?

The batting order for Operation: Hail Aaron:

Grisham CF
Judge RF
Bellinger LF
Stanton DH
Garcia 1B
Rice C
Lombard SS
Chisholm 2B
McMahon 3B

Yeah, it falls off at the bottom, especially if Chisholm remains a wipeout. But that's more reason to load big hitters at the top. Beginning this weekend, against Toronto, the Yankees must play every series like it's the postseason. And from now on, every injury is a season-ender. If that puts an end to Stanton's year, so be it. It's time to break glass, starting with Stanton's cyrstal hamstrings.

Rice won't catch. That ship has sailed.

It's not just that Stanton is muscle-bound. There are many weightlifting guys in MLB now. These injuries are more likely due to steroid use, which is characterized by joint, skeletal, and connective tissue breakdown.

Left unsaid is the fact that Rice was a poor defensive C, which is why he was moved to 1b. His flaws as a hitter are apparent as well. He cannot be moved back to C at this point in the season. Stanton will be used primarily as a PH, and an occasional part of what will be a rotational DH spot. Don’t like it? Ask cashman how the fuck he put this toaster together.

Right on, Carl Weitz. Which raises a number of ethical questions. Giancarlo got a huge contract because of his steroid use...then significantly damaged the team he was on (ours) because of then.

Every red cent he made ripped off the fans. Sure, any bright GM or owner might have been wary of just this happening, but the fact remains that Giancarlo ripped us all off.

With all due respect, they should play every fucking game, from spring training to the last one of the season, as though it’s the World Series. Every fucking game.

+1 Because practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.

If he used steroids, it was probably in the past, when he was in Miami. But the aftereffects never really go away. Connective tissue damage is permanent.

I've heard also that steroid use causes penile enlargement and testicle shrinkage. So you get hung like a horse, but with peanuts in the nutsack.

I wonder how many of the current major leaguers are doing steroids or human growth hormone. Back during Jose Canseco's playing days, he said it was like 70% or more, right? I have to think it's at least 50% today. Even with testing, they can use masking agents to conceal the p.e.d.s. Or they can recruit spies in the testing who warn players of upcoming tests so they can shut off use and take masking agents. If the testing is on urine, a player can take a bag of urine into the bathroom stall (because they don't observe the actual urination process). Human ingenuity has no limits.

I would put Cabby at second instead of Jazz.

Jizz has 405 AB, 142 Ks. Unbelievable! But he fits right in to the Yankees batting approach.

The ability to admit you were wrong is a prerequisite of higher intelligence. Not only can Cashman never do this - thereby making us live with his mistakes FOREVER because he cannot admit he fucked up - but even worse, I'm not sure he even KNOWS when he fucks up. He may not know the difference between a good player in reality and one in his head. He might trust stats more than good, old observation and common sense. Brian was into AI before AI existed. He would have never tolerated Casey Stengel or his approach to the game.

If I could, I would DFA Chisolm. He’s gone next year anyway. He should’ve been deal at the deadline for anything we could get

Good article at YGY stating why we shouldn’t have traded TJ Rumfeld for Civili https://yanksgoyard.com/6-offseason-decisions-the-2026-yankees-are-paying-for-in-august
Another cashman failure. One of many. Too many.

Never admitting that you are wrong. Reminds me of a certain DC politician.

I like Chivilli. Good strike out pitcher. Other than his last start, he seemed unhittable.

Interesting take on a 2027 Jizz contract:

Time to send Hal a letter that I am going to boycott the Yankees until Jizz is gone

In the steroids discussion, leave us not forget the first obvious Yankees PED breakdown, one Jason Giambi.
