Hope for keeping Miguel Andujar grows murkier every day

Sometime soon, in the middle of the night, the last remaining Yankee hope for Miguel Andujar will vanish, as it did for Gary Sanchez, Clint Frazier and Greg Bird - the vaunted class of 2018. That will leave us with Gleyber Torres, hanging by a thread, and Aaron Judge, waiting to get paid.

I hate to say this, but Miggy's time is running out. Consider the anticipated Yankee opening day roster:

1b Rizzo
2b Gleyber
ss The Hyphen
3b DJ
lf Gallo
cf Hicks
rf Judge
c Higgy
dh Giancarlo

3B-1B Josh Donaldson
Back up outfielder - Tim Locastro (or Gardy)
Back up catcher - Ben Bicpepdts

Back up infielder - Marwin Gonzalez

That's 13.

Now, for pitching, the Calgary Stampede...

Cole
El Chapo
Jonny Lasagna
Monty
Tailion
Sevy
Nasty Nestor
Mean Chad Green
Holmes
King of the Yankees
Luetge
Abreu
Peralta

That's 26. Because of the lockout, teams can carry two more...

Gil
Schmidt
Baneulos
Deivi Garcia

Miggy?

Sorry, but I don't see it. When Cashman absorbed Josh Donaldson's contract, he effectively strangled Andujar's chance to make this team. They're not going to pay him $1.3 million to play in Scranton. They'll trade him for scrap metal and claim its Sean Penn's smelted Oscar. Or they'll release him.

Either way, as they did with Clint Frazier, the Yankees will have devolved a great young talent into little or nothing of value. And that is how you spend $240 million and finish fourth.

Don’t worry, he’ll end up a dh for Atlanta or Tampa and get a ring long before the current yanks do

Out of all the faults attributed to the current team leadership, the failure to properly develop young talent is certainly the most damning.

Borntorun -

Yes. That and not understanding the basics of roster construction.
Speaking of... our back up catcher is who? Or more accurately and even worse, is not available.

Also Joey Gallo - Fun interview.

He's so loquacious that YES was going to give him his own cooking show "Joey Gallo At The Plate" but he kept missing the taping times.

Love "Ben Bicepdts"!

And yes, Born, not only have they failed to develop young talent, but they have failed to develop it in utterly mysterious ways. Guys come up, flourish—then suddenly lurch backwards and vanish. Other guys who shined in the minors are dealt away...and come to nothing.

Very strange—I can't think of anything quite like it in all of baseball history. Makes you wonder if there's some kind of weird juicing/training thing going on.

But whatever it is...it sure don't work.

I think the key to this and every Yankees season is how bad our team's management crew really is, including whoever is responsible for player development. Astonishingly bad. Guys like Miggy end up paying for it, while management collects fat paychecks and profits and continues blithely on, spewing excuses and transparently false optimism to try and cover their greed and ineptitude.

It's not a farce. Farces are funny. This is just destructive and either cynical or self-deluded. Probably some of both.

Sadly, the World Cup isn't until November. It would have been great to have it this summer as our streaky team streaks to oblivion.

I put on one of my Yankee jerseys this morning. My favorite dark grey one with white and navy piping. I may need to seek out professional help. Quit the Academy. Drop off the grid. Maybe eat me some breakfast and wash it down with tasty blast of steaming hot joe. The world is too big, mom. It's not an S. Mind the gap, 'cause that's where all the food gets stuck in . . .

They'll trade him for a 26 ML who has had 2 TJ surgeries, but has a live arm.

Has Gil had a poor spring? Had hopes for him after last year. And you have him listed as extra hay in the barn.

And after Abreu shows he's a potentially important bullpen arm, we trade him to Texas for a catcher.

For the second time in three weeks, the New York Yankees have traded for a backup catcher. The Yankees have acquired backstop Jose Trevino from the Texas Rangers for righty Albert Abreu and lefty Robby Ahlstrom, both teams announced. Trevino figures to be New York's Opening Day backup catcher.

Abreu was out of options and the Yanks needed a backup catcher for the backup catcher. Guess it makes sense....

That Trevino was a helluva putter back in the day.
Think that he must have changed his first name to make him seem less "Anglo."
However, I still love the "Merry Mexican." [Can you still say that?]

Under Genius Cashman, this has become the direction. The Yankees have a clueless GM.
