...The Great Strikeout Record Race continues!
And after a brief few games in which our boys made inexplicable amounts of contact, we seem to be back on track!
Here is how the standings look now, and what these figures project to over the course of the entire season:
Gallo: 11 178
Judge: 10 162
Sure, right now even our leader, the great Giancarlo, falls short of the 223, record mark just now. And Gallo and Judge, having each had a game off already (save for some ineffectual pinch-hitting), have fallen off his pace.
And...we have an interloper.
Dour Josh Donaldson, seen here in his usual defensive position, has 15 K's already, which puts him on a record-busting pace of 243 whiffs on the season.
But let's face it. As the late Bob Dole would say, you know and I know and the American people know that dear old Josh will never stay healthy long enough to strike out that much.
—Will Judge be able to pull ahead of Hicksie in RBI? Right now, after 10 games, he trails, 2-1. Or will this race really come down to who is injured more often?
—Who will be the first to homer? The first to notch an RBI?? Right now, after those same 10 games, Higgy, Falafel, and Joey Whiffs all have...zero.
That's right. Ten games into the season, one-third of our starting lineup has not homered or even driven in a run!
Who SAYS this season is boring??!! Why, just look at all the exciting races we have to follow!

I just noticed that the Friday September 30th game against Baltimore is Gerrit Cole Bobblehead Night. Unlike the other games with promotional giveaways, there isn't a photo yet of the actual Cole Bobble. I have to wonder if marketing is really struggling with whether Cole's shaky mug should feature the bright and smiling beacon of joy that we all saw when he started out as a Yankee or the scowling, bloated with vinegar, angry man-child that we all see today. I guess we'll all have to just stick around to see which way they go.
They should make a Joey Gallo bobblehead. His head is always moving so it fits. Perhaps they can find add eyes that have a small moving disc in them to simulate his eye tics.

I love these negative stats.
It makes me feel as though someone will have to tell Cashman and Boone the truth, one day. As we all know, if a pitcher gets raked, Boone will say in th boost game presser, ( with a smirk ) " he actually had some pretty good stuff. Jus missed a couple times in the zone...".
Or, when Stanton logs a golden sombrero ( even platinum ), Boone will talk about the" good swings he put on and just missed with..."
If the team was 1-11 with RISP, he'll say, " we just missed here and there."
Never will he call someone out. Never will he tell the truth.

What if Joey goes 400 at bats without an RBI? what will Boone then say?
Joey Gallo has 1 RBI in his last 20 games going back to last year (71 PA). It really is remarkable how useless this man can be.

And Dauntless Leader, the very worst thing? Boone and Cashie might GIVE Gallo 400 at-bats without a home run! ("Hey, he's really due!")

And yet Zach, the guys in analytics love him. Something about adding his barrel rate, lift angle, and exit velo together then divide by his walk rate. They swear it’s a can’t miss formula!
