We are three games into the second half of the season, and the sky is falling.
This will be a test of whether Cashman and Boone know what they are doing.
The fan base "knows" there are guys in the minors worth testing. Worth giving a career shot.
And you also know there are a bunch of 35 year old "has beens and never weres" floating around. These guys have better resumes than our untested Scranton kids, but no future. And they will cost the desperate yankees.
Get ready boys and girls.
The shit storm approaches.

Alpho,
What the shit storm arrives - what will the precipitation be like?
Will it be hail, mist, rain, sleet, or snow or a combination of the lot?
It will smell, AA, whatever it is.
It really doesn't matter what someone's "resume" has on it. He can have ten World Series rings on his fingers (and thumbs). The question is always what is he right now? It's easy to overvalue a veteran has-been (due to his record) and undervalue an up and comer (due to his lack of a record). What a guy did in the past doesn't mean shit if he can't do it anymore right now. Much of the time, it's a good idea to bet on younger blood. (Baseball, like all physical sports, is a young man's game.) But the longer you wait into the season, the greater the risk of throwing an untested rookie into the fire.
Today's roster moves:
07/23/22 New York Yankees placed RHP Michael King on the 60-day injured list. Right elbow fracture.
07/23/22 New York Yankees selected the contract of RHP Shane Greene from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
07/23/22 New York Yankees recalled RHP Clarke Schmidt from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
07/23/22 New York Yankees optioned LF Tim Locastro to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
we need pitching
so much pitching
maybe that is
what Gallo
should do
AA...It will be like a brown derecho.
That reminds me, don't do that colonoscopy alternative, Colorguard, unless you do not mind fishing for brown trout.
No Gallo tonight and Flahrety can't understand it because the Yankees have been trying to get him going all season and after last night's homer we're facing a low velocity pitcher and gosh shouldn't he be in there?
When a YES guy talks like that, I worry the Yankees aren't really trying to get rid of Gallows.
Love the poem, AA.
I had been afraid that I was too hard on Boone. Now, I don't think I was hard enough.
Yes, like all the Sabremetricious, Boonie doesn't believe in the hot hand. Never mind that everybody he ever played with or against, believes in it. Sure, a guy who has hit .160 for a year finally belts 2 homers in 4 games...and THEN you bench him.
Senseless.
I also remain baffled the the Yankees' constant need for rest.
Gallo has played, what, in 3 games since Sunday?
Gallo and the phrase "hot hand" seems to be stretching it a bit. I look at the home runs recently as flukes more than flames. But perhaps you're right.
If it's a righty,. It must be Donaldson.
stay grounded, Matt
Year of the Carp.
Salmon here tonight
Cole's throwing too many pitches to go deep in the game. Great pick by Rizzo.

As soon as I stop laughing at the absurdity of a question that has been answered a thousand times over by everyone on this blog, I might add a comment of my own.
Hicks is terrible with the bases loaded. What makes it worse is a pitcher who loads the bases in the first place is struggling. So he's even worse than his lifetime .160 BA in those situations suggests
Russo has said a few times that you wouldn't bring in Chapman because he's pitched twice in a row.
Yeah, that's why. Sure.
All right, they got the run in. So great.
But this is what I hate about Sabremetrics as dogma.
Your "ace" is struggling but up, 2-0. Top of the 4th. You get the leadoff man on first.
You have a .164 hitter up next. With your best average hitter after him.
Do you bunt? No, of course not! You're hoping Higgy—who has 5 HR in 150 plate appearances, and none since July 6—will hit one out.
NO!
Fortunately, he didn't hit into a DP, and they got 2 straight singles and a run. But this is stupid. It's not dealing with the situation, just the theory.
"...not dealing with the situation, just the theory."
So much so
Can we bring back the sticky stuff?
Cole tried.
1 for 11 with RISP.
Boone got exactly what he deserved there. No way Cole should have started the inning with that pitch count. But he lets himself be intimidated and bullied by his big-contract pitcher. What an inept jerk.
This game is so 2021.
Hicks is terrible in all situations, not just bases loaded.
Shane Greene? A triple retread? That is so Cashman.
Oh, and a belated return FUCK YOU to DickAllen, the diminutive geriatric white guy who fantasizes that he's a lavishly endowed super athlete. Nothing more gruesomely pathetic than that!
Yanks are showing a pulse…
Simply a case where Baltimore didn’t win the game, we lost it…
So, bad game all around.
But...bottom of the 5th, 3-0, our "ace" allows 6 hits to the next 10 hitters. Great work.
Yeah, we should score more than 3 runs against the Orioles. But our "ace" needs to stand up and keep us in it.
Hmm...could it be...he's not an ace?
By the by, Stanton has now started 2 games in the last week. The Iron Horse of the 21st century.
All the press and SABR geeks are interested in when it comes to pitchers is K/9 and K/BB. Yeah when you strike the hitter out nothing bad can happen (hark silly hitters). The problem is that a lot of pitches are burned through, leading to short outings, leading to bullpen surgeries. I'm writing about something long known. Power pitchers learned when to take their foot off the gas, regularly going over two hundred-fifty innings/year, frequently winning twenty games, and possibly winding up with 250-300+ wins. Now things have changed, with percentages of a "whole" more important than the objective (being winning). I believe that The Brain has fallen in love with such thought experiments (great CYA strategy), and will be hard pressed to win pennants except for the fluke years. We just might be in one of those flukey years which will further entrench the "Strategy". Remember when George wanted to be Whitey Herzog and turn the Yankees into the Cardinals?
My lifetime fan notes ;
Ford-Ace
Stottlemyre-Ace
Guidry-Ace
Andy P-King

ElDuque-King
Mussina-King
C.C.-King
Host of others-Queens and jacks
Cole--JOKER
YEP.
I largely agree, Archie. Except that I'd make Mussina a Queen. Or Joker.
And El Duque was an ace come October.
