Not as close as the score implies.

Lies, as I said. All lies.

"You know, the Yankees — they're not a good team. I don't care what their record is. They have a lot of wild pitches, they make a lot of mistakes in the field, they don't run the bases very well. If they don't hit home runs, they don't have a chance to win." - Blue Jays Analyst Buck Martinez. Sounds like he posts on this blog.

It sure was a squeaker, that game. I was on the edge of my seat up until the last limp swing...

It is looking more and more likely that we will be Ro'Done, tomorrow.

I don't see a path to winning this series.

Even if Carlos Rodon outduels Shane Bieber tomorrow night...

Even if Cam Schlittler shines again on Wednesday and steals the game...

I don't see how we win a Game 5 with Max Fried (21 R in 27.1 IP vs. TOR this year) on the mound in Toronto and a fully rested Kevin Gausman (and their rookie Trey Yesavage) waiting for us.

Our only options now are to lose in three games, lose in four games, or lose in five games.

Interesting analysis, Doug. Though it still does not account for why the Yanks could not manage so much as a seeing-eye single off a guy who started the year in Single-A.

Yankees never hit a new pitcher. There are two tried and tested ways to beat the Yankees: (1) opposing pitcher needs to load the bases in every inning, with nobody out - Yanks will never score, or maybe they'll manage 1 measly bases loaded walk, but that'll be it for the entire game (2) trot out a pitcher the Yankees have never faced, even a 10 year old girl from Little League can shut 'em down with ease, as long as she throws strikes and changes speeds.

Buck Martinez should be applauded for telling the truth. All those crazy people out there, saying the Yankees were the favorites in this series. All I can do is laugh.

Zach A - I totally agree. They are totally going to lose. Three games to none is preferred because then there might be semi hope that Boone is fired. (Wishful thinking)

Hoss - Rice will swing at sinkers in the dirt. Stanton will swing at sinkers in the dirt. Judge when he gets anxious will swing at sinkers in the dirt. That guy threw sinkers in the dirt.

I put up the home road splits not to imply we will win at home but to wonder why the Blue Jays splits are so radical. The Yankees won at home and the road. The Blue Jays play much much better at home. Why?

They're an artificial turf team. Like the Tampons. These teams tend to have very strong home field advantage, everything else being equal. But add better coaching/better managing/better team architecture = Yankees get exposed. Once again, the Yankees, like the fairy tale emperor, pitifully inadequately dressed but pretending to be fully dressed in royal splendour. We called it here. I did say at the start of the season Yankees make the playoffs and then get booted out in the first round. Boston gifted them the first wild card round. Toronto hasn't been so kind.

All year long, we wondered how long pitchers would keep giving Trent Grisham cookies to hit. (And I give him credit, at least he hit those cookies all year.) Now he's not getting those cookies, and he looks every bit that career .220 hitter that he was before the year started. The series even started with a terrible omen: Grisham swinging at the first pitch and fouling it off his foot, not running to first base, umpires refusing to call it foul. I guess the clock struck midnite & Grisham reverted back to a pumpkin.

So I wondered how they were going to fuck up Jasson Dominguez. Well, Yankee coaches should get the Nobel Prize for coming up with incredible new ways to fuck up young players. They've turned him into some kind of off-speed singles hitter. He doesn't get around on the fastball; doesn't even swing at fastballs; simply takes them for a strike. Must be some kind of Yankee analytics thing.

Now that Grisham is struggling, Dominguez is not available because he's been benched for a month. Not even sure why Dominguez is on the playoff roster. They never put him in a game, except maybe to pinch run. And even that job has now gone to Cabellero. So why is Dominguez on the roster?

At the start of the year, I said playing Grisham over Dominguez is the wrong move. They might make the playoffs with the veterans, but it's going to be the same crap all over again. And we're seeing it right now.

Imagine if Jasson Dominguez played for the Toronto Blue Jays. He'd be a superstar hitting .330, probably 30 homers, .950 OPS. On the Yankees? He's a .250 singles hitter who cannot get around a fastball, sitting on the bench, maybe a 7th outfielder. Look for more of the same next year. I feel bad for Jasson. They're ruining his career, in favor of veterans like Trent Grisham, Amed Rosario, Jose Cabellero, and Austin Slator. And you wonder why the Yankees never develop players?
