Harwell's farewell

In a couple weeks, we gotta beat the Tigers.

But we can never defeat Ernie Harwell, who has an inoperable cancer.

Here's his Lou Gehrig speech.

I grew up in Detroit, and it's hard to overstate what Ernie meant to everyone there. Through years of bad teams, horrible racial animosity, and economic divisions, Ernie was always Ernie. Smart, sincere, respectful, unsentimental, professional, in love with the game and his fellow man.

He lived life as it should be lived.
