(Note: This list, in ABSOLUTELY NO WAY, promotes violence. We NEVER condone physical attacks on other teams or players, regardless of how much they deserve it. If you think FOR ONE MINUTE, pally, that this site approves of physical fisticuffs, well, you're WRONG. Not that we'll look you up in our secret registry, find where you live, come to your porch with a fake pizza delivery and punch you in the nose, even though you asked for it. No, we'd never do that. We're pacifists. Peace-loving, touchy-feely pacifists. Get it? Yeah, I think you do. So, read the list, back away from the computer and shut up.)
ALL TIME TOP 10 YANKEE DUGOUT-CLEARING ON-FIELD BRAWLERS
1. Graig Nettles (Just ask the Spaceman.)
2. Don Zimmer (took on Pedro)
3. Shelley Duncan (Stood up for Frankie Cervelli against Tampa spring training thugs, spiked their SS in the balls to start it)
4. Daryl Strawberry (went into the O's dugout after Armando Benitez, fought the whole team, heroic)
5. Ralph Houk (nobody messed with him)
6. Johnny Ellis (circa 1972, back-up catcher, could have had hockey career)
7. Lou Piniella (fought Carlton Fisk after home plate mashup)
8. Alex Rodriguez (battled Jason Varitek, who wouldn't take off his mask)
9. Billy Martin (honed skills in nightclubs, bars)
10. Gary Sanchez (the rabbit puncher)
Note: People who advocate violence should be taken out back and horsewhipped to within an inch of their lives. That'll cure them.

And then there was Stengel, who didn't need to resort to base violence. Casey would baffle them with bullshit and destroy their minds.
Tanyon Sturtz was a pretty good brawler. And Varitek leaving the mask on while attacking A-Rod remains the single most cowardly act I've ever seen on a baseball field. Still makes my blood boil.
Thurman Munson decking Carlton Fisk in Fenway in August 1973 is the most underrated event in Yankees history. A new era dawned that day.
Varitek may have been a pussy for not taking off his mask, but he did have a great line that day: "Fuck off Alex, we don't throw at guys hitting .220"
1) "Jeff Nelson, Karim Garcia vs. Fenway Park groundskeeper
2) Reggie vs. Billy
3) CC Sabathia battling his weight.
Doug K.
I agree with anon. Munson went after Fisk and set the tone for the rest of the decade with Boston. That was fun.
As Doug says, Nelson and Garcia struck a blow for freedom when they stomped the groundskeeper.
Cabrera is the chickenshit has-been who made this whole thing blow apart. He got mad because Romine and Girardi weren't paying enough attention to his fat ass.
I am in complete accord with the non-violent policies of this blog, but it would have been much better if Kahnle had hit him.
Honorable mentions.
Graeme Lloyd for flailing wildly at Benitez
Karim Garcia for fighting the Boston Fan/groundskeeper
Jeff Nelson for his part in both the Benitez fight and for fighting the Boston Fan/groundskeepr
Hideki Irabu for rushing the plate after hitting a batter
Tanyon Sturze already mentioned. Guy bled for the Yankees
Mickey, Billy, And Whitey for getting into bar brawls
Mick "The Quick" Rivers for trying to punch everyone in the Bill Lee brawl
Probably missing a few, but Strawberry should be higher, 2nd only to Nettles. He fought Bill Risley in the Blue Jays fight later in the 98 season. And in the Benitez fight Kenny declares "Darryl Strawberry is out to the mound" as if to say we all know this guy loves fighting. Anyone know where I can find Thurmon punching Fisk?
CC battling his weight HAHAHA lol...
KYLE FARNSWORTH VS....ANYBODY THAT BREATHES
Both Romine and Sanchez moved up a couple notches in my eyes yesterday.
Gotta love Thomson being thrown out as the fill in manager.
If only they'd won the game.
Updated: Aaron Judge for delivering a big left on Cabrera and then dragging him along the ground before throwing a forearm to his face.

How about Reggie getting knocked down by John Denny, hitting the next pitch into the seats, then running out AFTER completing his home-run trot, and mauling Denny like a hungry grizzly going after a Girl Scout with a picnic basket full of trout?
Tough AND smart!
Also, A-Rod was hitting .278 that day. Varitek was hitting .276. Just sayin'.
Did Mike Judge do Todd Fraizer's cleats?
Who the hell was that guy just covering for John the top of the tenth. That's the second time didn't make it back to the mic in time.
Is that Jack, the sunoco broadcast bitch? Basically Suzyn makes a demand and he obeys.
Anyways, was there a person alive who genuinely thought Judge would deliver there? 9 innings, 1 run, 12 men left on base.
Chapman.
Michael Kay: "The bullpen is to blame for a lot of the games they've lost this year--as good as they are." Lolz.
Predict the cover for tomorrow's papers.
Will it be
A. Chapman blowing yet another game
B. Anything pertaining to the suspensions handed down
C. Cespedes getting injured again
Awful, awful, awful.
Get Judge off this team. You can't have a 3-4 hitter batting .170 something. Send him down, trade him, DFA him. I don't care. He cannot hit and we cannot win with no hitter in those spots.
The Ghost of George materializes in the form of HoraceClarke66, ready to banish a rookie who only leads the league in home runs, is at or near the top of the league in every meaningful offensive category, and leads the team in those categories. This is why Yankee fans suck.
No. It's why Yankee fans are the greatest fans in the world.
Munson v. Fisk
Top of the list.
The Yankees had been bad for a very long time, and this signaled that things were changed.
I always heard that one of the toughest Yankees was Gene " the stick " Michael.
Munson was a roiling mess of resentment and anger and pissed-offness. He was Rookie of the Year and then Big Sexy Carlton came along and made the game look easy, and ol'Thurm wasn't having any of that. He was just drooling for a chance to get a piece of Fisk, and while he may not have come out on top of that scrum, he let everyone know this is a white-hot rivalry and Fuck You, Boston .
I like Sanchez. I'm not sure his fire burns as hot as Munson's, but he's showing that he cares a lot about what he's doing and about his team. And it doesn't hurt that he goes on these homerun tears, either.
