Still four up, Rizzo sick, Guzman here, Gallo is hot (like all of California, that is), and the guy we sent to the Cubs is another reason Cashman won't make the Hall

This we know...

1. The juju gods are assholes. Never forget this. They will do anything - anything - to mess us up.

2. America has noticed the Yankee meltdown. The other night, a WWE announcer described a tag team as "falling apart faster than the New York Yankees." Also, in a U Conn football game, an announcer compared a fumbled kickoff to a booted grounder by Isiah Kiner-Falefa. If the collapse continues, the Yankees will become shorthand for choking. And don't expect sympathy. Most people still think we buy pennants and that "Steinbrenner" means an obsession with winning.

3. Light the candles for Anthony Rizzo. Supposedly, his back no longer hurts. Now, it's headaches. (Haven't heard the word "migraine," which is strange.) This comes after an epidural, which usually provides temporary back relief. So, if he's on the shelf, he's wasting the benefit of the shot. Anyone who remembers Don Mattingly knows what a barking back can do to a firstbaseman. Without Rizzo, we're a first-round knockout in the postseason, that is, if we make it.

2. Our new 1B is Ronald Guzman, 28, and he's worth a paragraph. The guy is 6'5", so he'll look good coming off the bus. He bats LH, which is good. He wanted to go both ways this year - supposedly has a big slider - so in a blowout, he'll be first called. Five years ago, he was a big prospect for Texas - hit three HRs against the Yankees in a game - looked like a mauler. His numbers flatlined, he blew out a knee, and he missed 2021. This year, he started slow at Scranton, got hot lately. Whatever he does, we've got to give DJ LeMahieu's toe a rest; poor guy's doing nothing out there. Lightning in a bottle? Or just the next Mike Ford?

3. Over his last 15 games, Joey Gallo is giving LA fans a taste of what this explosive-but-oh-so-sensitive slugger can do. He's hitting .171 with 19 Ks in 41 at bats. Could it be that Dodger fans are as heartless and cruel as their NY counterparts? The big difference: His beard, which definitely improves his profile.

4. The Cubs promoted RH pitcher Hayden Wesneski yesterday, and  he threw five scoreless innings, gave up 2 hits. He's 24. I wanna cry. We traded him - and opened the coral - for Scott Effross, currently on the IL with a shoulder strain. Not to rip Effross, but when we got him, he was among the league leaders in games pitched. Did we think all those innings didn't matter?

So, two with the Twins today. John Sterling laments doubleheaders because - bless his heart - he says it's harder for the Yankees to sweep. Of course, we're all expecting the worst - a reverse Ryan McBroom. If we do blow these, if Minnesota gets revenge for all our jokes and mockery, we could be out of first place by the weekend. We've won two in a row, but the boat is still listing. Don't trust the juju gods.

Guzman has a 96 mph fastball along with his slider. Hey, ya never know.

He's not on the 40-man roster, though, so I have no idea what happens in terms of the intricacies involved there. Someone please explain what that means?

Anyway, he's been on a tear in AAA. Maybe he'll keep it up. He's only 28. Would be nice to have another successful reclamation project now that Carp is gone.

HOF Cashman has given away 4-5 future MLB players over the last 2 years, maybe not stars but good cheap talent for a collection of shit. He has no idea (and never has) how do build a team. He's great at giving mutli-year contracts to players at the end of the line and then complain that they are cash trapped. This is beyond a joke now, it's pathetic.

Hi JM, in order for a club to add a player to the 26-man roster, the player must be on the 40-man roster. If a club with a full 40-man roster wishes to promote a Minor League player that is not on the 40-man roster, it must first remove a player from the 40-man roster -- either by designating a player's contract for assignment, trading a player, releasing a player or transferring a player to the 60-day injured list. So the team has to make room for Guzman somehow.

It will be Benintendi right? He's done for the year.

Jordan Montgomery
6 GS, 1.47 ERA

JP Sears
5 GS, 2.63 ERA

Ken Waldichuk
1 GS, 1.93 ERA

Hayden Wesneski
1 G, 0.00 ERA

So once again we would've been better off if Brian Cashman did absolutely nothing at the Trade Deadline.

What about the other half?

Bader IL
Montas 5.87
Effross IL

and to be fair Trevino .068

Zach, you perfectly encapsulated Crashman’s failure: we would have been better served had he done nothing.

Cashman, is proving how clueless he is. As far as Joey is concerned, he was never equipped to play in N.Y.

Hey everyone, did I tell you so or what? All we needed for the bullpen was to just keep throwing Sears and bring up the two W's. Well, at least Montas pitched well his last time out. Hope it's not the last time he pitches well.

Trevino appears to have righted his ship. He had some rough outings at first, but perhaps the much maligned Yankee pitching coaches straightened him out. Another Holmes reclamation success? We'll see.

@Doug K., Here's a quote from Mad Max, courtesy of Jim Goose:

"Don't count out the [Evil Weasel] until you see the box going into the hole!"

Two against the Twinkies today: I say be afraid, be very afraid. Cole pitching on extra rest, in a double header, no less. I think he's another head case, Cole. A charlatan pretending to be a big time pitching guru. His time here has proven that he's nothing more than a prima donna. And our season now hangs on his performance today. Lord have mercy!

Matt Carpenter’s x-rays showed healing but it’s not where it needs to be to start baseball activity … will get another x-ray in 10-14 days #yankees

Here's the real truth about double header danger for the Yankees: IKf we don't get depth ( length?) from our starters, we will be pitching no names for a long time.

Pray for rain again.

You know, if I were the Twins Mgr, I’d simply issue 4 IBB to Judge and take it from there.

There is a real possibility that we get no-hit today.

Do I see this correctly? SONNY GRAY, in the flesh, is slated to start against the Yankees tomorrow? Hooo boy! The jujus have a plan, I tells ya.

ranger_lp said...

If Gray is pitching, then that's an automatic loss for the Yanks...

HoraceClarke66 said...

We are really having very bad luck this year, running into these pitchers that we didn't get or foolishly discarded.

NOT that it was a mistake to jettison Sonny Gray. But we should have got something for him, which HOF Cashman so abjectly failed to do.
