Game 70: Never Mind the Bollocks

We just got a letter from Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside, who said he'd listened to the John Sterling interview that Rufus linked to in yesterday's game thread. Anyway, the lede is, John just happened to mention that he might come back to do a show on WFAN. Huge if true! The tease commences at 38:02.

Beauregard should be posting here. Never get upset about asking to behave a bit. I would have zero friends if I didn't think that. Hey, I worked in Boston for 25 years.

Stang, please give Beauregard my e-mail (if you still have it). I cruise by his neighborhood occasionally and wouldn't mind dropping in sometime.

OH, and Glassman hitting cleanup. Bonehead trying new ways to lose a game.

DickAllen said...

Fear not Rufus! Glassman will probably Homer tonight - and it will come with the Yankees ahead. He is the King of Meaningless Home Runs. I’m sure it will soon become an MLB stat. Just ahead of exit velo and hard hit balls

BTR999 said...

Another clutch AB by the useless Stanton

DickAllen said...

And the guy can’t even hit a meatball

BTR999 said...

Vertigo!

TheWinWarblist said...

That's gotta be a bit disheartening. The Yanks bat around in the first inning and score 6 runs?

Go go Trevie!!

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Wow, step out for dinner and I miss the party.

Well, I didn't miss the Glassman.

TheWinWarblist said...

Did something happen to the KC started or did they just pull him because he was stinking up Kaufman Field?

TheWinWarblist said...

Lil' Tony!!! 2 fer 2!!!

DickAllen said...

KC used an opener because their starter has a 21+ ERA in the first inning. That worked out well.

Keep on Bringing on the Soup Cans.

It’s fun.

Soto in the lineup is our magic charm.

SIGN HIM YOU SPITTOONS

Scoreless game? Strike out looking. 6-0 game? HR. Uncanny.

Another Meaningless Home Run for Glassman

DickAllen said...

I hate these announcers

AboveAverage said...

You could tell StanTon was going to go yard based on his steady stance and how well rooted he was at the plate.

No wobble- No Bucket stepping - IWLIWFIWG!

Plus . . .

IT WAS HIS SEVENTEENTH (17) HOMER!!!!!

BIRTHDAY WISHES FROM CAN’T RUN

JM said...

I just caught up to his at bat. He is good when it doesn't matter.

JM said...

How about that Poteet?

TheWinWarblist said...

The thing about Stanton's exit velocity is that it infuriates me. He destroys baseballs when he makes contact. That shows he still has well above MLB average bat speed. So how come all the strikeouts and unproductive outs? How the fucking come?

I will tell you. BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS MESMERISED BY THE FUCKING MEANIGLESS HOMERUNS FOR STANTON'S WHOLE FUCKING LIFE AND NO ONE BOTHERED TO TEACH FUCKING "HOMERUN LURCH" HOW TO FUCKING HIT!!! AND NO ONE IS GOING TO!!!! APPARENTLY LEARNING TO BENCH PRESS FITNESS MODELS IS MORE IMPORTANT!!! AND NO ONE IS BOTHERING TO TEACH HIM NOW!!! BECAUSE THE NY YANKEES FRANCHISE IS FAILING HIM AND THEREFORE FAILING ALL OF US!!!!

FUCK HAL. FUCK BOONE. FUCK CASHBRAIN.

DickAllen said...

But Win, everyone, I mean EVERYONE says he’s a real presence in the lineup!!

$32MM buys you a lot of bullshit

JM said...

But Win, how do you really feel?

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Winnie,

I have some serious concerns that you may like Glassman a little too much. He is less than that. Your optimism is quaint to those of us that hate him even more.

Otherwise, I couldn't agree more.

JM said...

Gleyber!!!????

Rufus T. Firefly said...

I don't give two shits about exit velo, no matter what Suzyn is trying to say.

Pocono Steve said...

Christ on a crutch. Torres is now a Yankee for life.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

TRADE HIM NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another McBrooming in progress….

DickAllen said...

Little Tony is having a game

JM said...

Hamilton did not have a game.

DickAllen said...

Thank goodness we have Stanton’s insurance runs

Hinkey Haines said...

Time to get Cabrera up in the bullpen, since the guys who are supposed to be pitchers apparently … can’t.

DickAllen said...

This is the first game I’ve watched beginning to end thus far, and I’m thinking this bullpen is going to be in tatters come august.

And the announcers are still touting Glassman’s distance.

AboveAverage said...

Don’t dive Mr Judge.

Please won’t somebody tell Mr Judge that he isn’t allowed to dive.

Perhaps a rider in that contract of his.

No running into Walls
No diving on the Field
No diving and rolling on the Field
No Rizzo strike zone leaning whilst Batting
No eating airport Sushi
and so on

BTR999 said...

This just in:

Stanton still sucks. I don’t care how long his homers are

ranger_lp said...

Yankees win….

Hinkey Haines said...

These last couple of innings make me think the Royals are going to rip the Yankees a new one tomorrow.

AboveAverage said...

Just to be clear - Stanton still sucks.

But Lettuce look at the positive.

He gave us all here a 17th Birthday Present.

Good for him.

Go for US.

Good for the Yankees!

So, how'd the Yanks do? Hello?

AboveAverage said...

Hoss -

They enjoyed some tasty BBQ and then were disappointed to discover that a plumbing problem filled their hotel with feces.

Hope that helps !

A.A.

HoraceClarke66 said...

I hate to be fair to Stanton, who as many of you know, I loathe.

But I think now it's not so much being un-clutch as being old. You see this with plenty of players. In a garbage time game, they're just going to get more mistakes, more half-assed "I don't care" curves, more back-of-the-bullpen fastballs.

You can have guys like that in there if they are, maybe, still flashing some leather, or drawing walks. Or something. Stanton does none of that—and in a game where the playoffs count more than ever, they are just waiting for him to get smoked.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Also, never mind Judge diving. Why is he IN a game where we have a 6-run lead late, against the Kansas City Royals. Isn't this a moment for Grisham? Trent, not John?

Oh, right! It's because we have a moron for a manager.

Yanks would be better off lowering Judge's innings this way, instead of just arbitrarily pulling him for a game—especially when he's en fuego.

TheWinWarblist said...

The game was blacked out for me even though I have the Yes network.

AboveAverage said...

Great points Hoss - why indeed .

AboveAverage said...

However IF Judge remains in the game because of our boneheaded manager- he should not be diving like that when the team has such a substantial lead.

Stang said...

Rufus T., I passed your message on to Beau.

Kevin said...

Methinks that Stanton would be a great sixth or seventh hole hitter. A team such as Tampa (assuming that he wasn't highly paid) would be praised for such a player. The problem for us is that he's being paid as a number three/four hitter. And large resources are being spent. But accept that he is going to be on the team for most if not all of his contract. Yeah, he hits some garbage time homers, but who doesn't? If Hal would spring for two more "good" hitters in the lineup nobody would give a damn about Stanton (Martian, and he's cheap) . But will Hal? Probably "NO"! But if Stanton would/could start drawing some walks he'd be a fairly valuable guy in the lineup. He's a better than average DH as it stands right now. Maybe Judge could explain the concept of "on base average" to him he'd stop obsessing over "exit velocity" and "distance". Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe....
