Mine fought him. But I guess this is just for Germans.
The biggest news site in Germany, spiegel.de. Quite a move with the rise of the AfD party (Nazis in thin disguise.) Yeah, it's happening here, too. Scary.
And now, back to baseball...sorry for the diversion, but I felt I had to share this one.

Authoritarianism & fascism are on the rise everywhere. In just about every country, there is a clown-in-chief masquerading as a chief executive. Offering simple solutions to complex problems; pointing an accusing finger at minority groups for "causing" all the problems. I don't know what is about people in general, but there seems to be a need to believe those clowns and blindly follow terrible leaders, oftentimes to their own detriment. It sure does reflect poorly on humanity. Intelligence & generosity of spirit are in short supply.
The most amusing example of a fascist leader is Mussolini. He learned how to speak publicly and make certain types of facial expressions from studying Italian movies. Who knew that all you needed to be Clown-In-Chief in Italy was to go out on a parapet, make ridiculous statements, and make smug facial expressions with hands on hips?
Well, the people of Italy did prove themselves intellectually superior (eventually) by beating Mussolini to death with sticks and then hanging his body upside down in the square and spitting on it. Sure wish the Germans had done that with German Clown-in-Chief Adolf Hitler, but they did not, to their everlasting dishonor and disgrace.
One side of my family hid for their lives in a Dutch windmill. The other side rode across the ETO with the US 3rd Armored Division and liberated a concentration camp.
Siamo tutti antifascisti.
Hammer, I think some people are just not very bright and others like simplistic reasons for why things are what they are. And some are racist shitheads.
I have grandparents who fought in the Cameron Highlanders,RAF and British 8th Army and I am very proud of how they defeated fascisim
I have medals and cap badges from WW1 and WW2 of my relatives and they amongst my proudest possesions.
Sadly not so much Scotland but England and to a lesser extent Wales we have a chinless wonder multi millionaire stockbroker by the name of Nigel Farage who aspires to be as much of a cluessless dangerous buffoon as his hero Trump gaining popularity.
Accoring to him it is all Johnny foreigners fault and they should all be in interment camps then deported and all the problems will be solved and much like it seem in the USA he has managed to persuade working class people that he is somehow on their side.
I honestly despair for humanity at times how we do not learn out lessons and let the forces of hate and division get into positions of power
The Sturmabteilung never wore masks like ICE agents do.Not even on Kristallnacht in 1938.
I’m choosing to believe in Woody Guthrie, who famously sang “all you fascists bound to lose“

Yes, I know about Farage. Piece of crap who keeps floating back up instead of being flushed down for good. I do check out the Guardian every day, since their reporting on the US is better than the big newspapers back there.
A great legacy, Scotland—but sorry to hear about Farage still gaining popularity. It's still at least a couple years until you have to have an election, though, right? Maybe, somehow, things will improve.
Carl Weitz, I know what you mean. Saw some more, shocking footage of three ICE goons beating and arresting a (non-resisting) Hispanic guy in the Bronx on the news last night. Seems that AFTER that, they went through his cellphone, discovered he was the wrong guy—as he kept trying to tell them—and dropped him off in a park, bleeding and traumatized.
Beyond the sheer horror of this, is the ludicrousness of these 4-5 thugs jumping one man. If you really wanted to clear out undocumented immigrants, this is not the way; apparently the cruelty IS the point.
Gee, what a surprise.
Oh, and Hammer? The Italians sentenced Mussolini to death and shot him, before dragging him all around Milan and stringing him up. Just saying!
