Marc Anthony: Let Me Play "Young Alex" In ABC After School Special

HOLLYWOOD--Things are heating up in the push to bring the Alex Rodriguez story to network television. ABC is reportedly considering resurrecting the "ABC After School Special" franchise as a vehicle for a project with the working title Loosey-Goosey: The Alex Rodriguez Story.

One industry insider says ABC is "dead serious about making this project a reality." The insider, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, also said that ABC has already signed up legendary After School Special writer and director Dick Mellon to work on the project.

Mellon, whose prior ABC After School credits include No Means No, Father O'Reilly and He's Not A Midget (He's My Bus Driver) is widely regarded as the best in the business.

At the same time, reports are also surfacing that Latin crooner Marc Anthony wants to play "Young Alex" in the film. "This is more about body type than age," said an Anthony supporter. "He'd be perfect as a pre-steroid Alex Rodriguez."

The Anthony confidant also brushed off assertions that Wilmer Valderrama would be a better fit for the part. "Who wants that problem on the set?" the insider said.

That Dick Mellon is a goddamm genius. I loved his adaptation of the Pirates in the late 70s and early 80s: "The Pittsburgh Parrot Story: Cobra, Dale, I Got What You Need".

A fat role for Andy Griffith -- say, Edgar Martinez -- could solve this whole sweater thing.

Griffith says the only way he'll play the role is if the writers change the name to Ed Martin, just called up to the Bigs from the Mayberry Mutcats. Looks like this whole sweater thing ain't out of steam yet...
