MLB killed the video star

The suits have finally discovered this site and, because there isn't a coin slot for them, there can be no more winwarbles, no more Sterling mash-ups, no more sounds. They have effectively killed every YouTube video we ever produced. Everything.

Oh well. Always knew this day would come.

Have to figure out something else to rile the waters and have fun. Any ideas?

MLB, like many reactionary, backward-thinking entities, fears what it does not understand.

I suggest using http://www.xtranormal.com/ to reconstruct winwarbles.

duque -

as you know tony fernandez was supposed to be playing short in 96 and got injured. the yanks figured something out, you'll do the same.

that being said, i never said this. i don't need mlb's satellites coming after me...

See I think the problem here is that whole "fun" thing...MLB as an institution is rather incompatible with that notion at this point.

That said, what happened to parody as fair use? They can't possibly think those Sterling mashups somehow compete with MLB.tv and various other ways they have of squeezing money out of people, can they? Give me a break.

Please post their letters so we can mock them!

If anything, what you guys do is free publicity for Major League Baseball. This really is absurd. Keep fighting the good fight, guys.

I'm sorry this happened, Duque. You did so much great work.
I've never seen a business spend so much time, money and effort to keep their fans from enjoying their product.

I think there was a really long win warble tonight too, I was wondering how it rated. Now I'm so sad. :(

Hire a good lawyer. Raise money on the blog. Screw 'em, they don't have a case, trust me.

This is ridiculous.

We're baseball's public enemy No. 1

I think we need to start a daily feature.

"Reasons why Bud Selig is an idiot"

.... wait, I think I have a better name:

"Reasons why Bud Selig is an incompetent fuck"

Hey, Duque, maybe we can do some "re-enactments" ... I'll work on my warble voice.

Hope you can find a way to keep the videos going. Aside from your beautifully scripted prose, it's the main reason I visit this site.

Time for the site to shift back to it's native Spanish. That'll throw MLBAM off of the trail for a few months.

This is a joke, right?

oh my goodness gracious!

You just can't predict baseball.

B.Stanley said...

awful. you should just record yourself doing a 30 second warble and cut it down to match whatever John does for the night. there's always a way around the system.

I'm honestly surprised. I would understand if they wanted to protect an inning, or even just an entire at-bat from being reproduced, but a few seconds out of an entire broadcast each day? Just absurd. They really know how to alienate their fans. The NHL broadcasts their radio feeds live on the internet. Charging for it in the first place is ridiculous, and calling the legal team on a fan site is shockingly stupid.

What a bunch of eff heads. The worst part is Selig leaving wouldn't do any good -- whatever "rules" are in place to protect the IP of the MLB will never go away. Once they're there there's no chance they'd take them away. What a sad, sad day.

Just saw this and think it's time to launch a protest! The people must speak! We want It Is High videos now and forever!

Very silly. I believe this is an attempt by the Redsock "nation" to sabotage Sterling's efforts for another championship.

My suggestion - use a filesharing site...but even then, it'd be a damn shame. half the fun came from the images in the videos.

this has to be covered on fair use. its all just parody.

It's my fault.
