My New Year's Fears

I heard the news about Jeter's contract while sitting in a french bistro on the west side.

I was slugging down Jack and pickled something, when I heard his voice on the television.

Bitching about his $50+ million contract for
3 years ( and an option) grated somewhat, as I was using personal debt to pay for my alcohol.

Here is what I am worried about:

1. We wont get Cliff Lee.

2. We didn't get John Lackey.

3. We have 2 beanpoles whose names begin with "B." Neither is major league ready, and both will likely suck for another 3 years anyway. And as the clock ticks, they are older than Hughes already.

4. We will be booing Jeter sometime during this new contract. For hitting into too many critical double plays; for not getting clutch hits, for losing another step.

What a horror that would be.

If you believe, as I do, that you should never boo a player on your own team for anything other than a lack of effort/hustle, you will never boo Jeter, no matter how many grounders he fails to reach with his golden glove or how many rallies he kills with DPs.
