To the Editor:
I am not a tax professional, but it seems obvious to me that the guy who traded Derek Jeter’s 3,000th hit ball for some Yankees memorabilia and game tickets should be able to claim a tax loss rather than owe taxes. The ball will be worth a lot more that $50,000, which is the conservative estimate of the value of the items the Yankees gave him. I hope he gets some legal tax advice.
