McCutchen to wear #26

If ever there was a rental uniform on the Yankees, 26 has to be one of the leading candidates. It's almost the prom tux of the Bronx Bombers.

McCutchen will be the 76th player to wear #26, joining Andy Fox, Nick Johnson, and a slew of other luminaries, a few of whom were actually fine players. And a lot of them who were, let us say, less. Lots of memories in this list.

Wow! Nice list. So I'm guessing they won't be retiring that # any time soon.

Ryne Duren. The original wild thing. At old timers' day, his first pitch was always to the screen and pretty high up it too. At the old stadium that was quite a heave.

GUS TRIANDOS! The slowest man ever to hit an inside-the-park HR. Used the outsized catcher's mitt to catch Hoyt Wilhelm's knuckler, most memorably for Wilhelm's no-hitter against the Yanks in 1958. In fact, the only catcher to catch perfect games in both the AL and NL (Jim Bunning for the Phillies 1964). The pride of Greek baseball!

Any ideas for a homerun call? I nominate, "McCutcheon is in high dudgeon!"

Cutch is clutch will rear its ugly head.

Andy is Dandy!

Those dreads are dreadful! (yeah, I know they're gone).

Non ti vedrò l'anno prossimo!

He wore #22 in Pittsburgh and SF. Can't take that away from Ellsbury.
