Plague Theater: We have seen the future and his name is Jesus Montero

9/5/11. A garbage game made immortal by two titanic clouts by future Yankee superstar Jesus Montero.

Sad, sad. A seemingly can't-miss career—that missed.

As all so many Yankees careers do. Although at least we were spared having to see that collapse as—while he was still a huge trading piece—Montero was dealt away not for the pitcher who might have won us a couple of rings (Cliff Lee), but a nut job who was also injured (Pineda).

Hey, I know its baseball, and bad stuff happens. It's the natural heartbreak of the game.

But does it seem to anyone else that our New York Yankees have long spent way, way too much time and effort trying to "fix" the games of young naturals that don't need to be fixed—'Everybody throw breaking balls in the dirt! Dare to take a called third strike! Swing for the fences on every pitch in every situation!'—and way, way too little on looking out for their emotional and physical needs—'Here is your individual major-league mentor, to keep you away from drugs, get you a financial counselor, and see that you eat well and work out smart. And look: an MRI that actually works! And a real doctor!'—?
