The Yankees just swept a tomato can. Another one looms. Then it's Boston and our "Once In a Lifetime" moment.

After three games, I cannot vouch for the state of baseball in St. Louis.

Many invisible fans. Yesterday, for a visit by an ancient rival, the bleachers ran red with empty. The Cards featured no Yadier, no Gibby, no Lou - (The "Name That Yankee" answer turned out to be beloved icon Bill White, who actually never played for us.) Never heard of anybody, except for that Nootbaar guy, whose name cannot be forgotten. The loudest cheer came for Paul Goldschmidt, who nearly cried. And in the final inning, St. Louis graciously gave us the game.

Not sure we'll receive the same treatment elsewhere.

But am I carping, whinnying, bleating? Hell, na-a-ay. We have won three straight. Check the standings.

We are tied in the loss column with Boston and Seattle.

We are three ahead of Cleveland, five behind Toronto.

We can still win the AL East, which could also mean home field advantage through the playoffs. I'm not dreaming this. It could happen. There is time. This is our Once In a Lifetime moment.

Think of the psychotically positive Sammy Davis Jr., prancing onto the Vegas stage and stoking the ginned-up oldsters into a heart-attack, singing: "One in a lifetime, a fan knows a moment. A fan knows his moment. When faith takes his hand. And this is our moment. Our once in a lifetiiiiiiiiime..."

Okay, when you think of "Once in a Lifetime," it's the Talking Heads' version, right? "And you may ask yourself, how did I get here?"

We're going to Tampa. To our winter home. The stadium wears the Rays colors, carries the Rays logo, sells the Rays merch. But it's our house. Our home. Our Dial soap in the shower. We play two in Tampa, then four against Boston in the Bronx.

Don't mean to be a drama queen. But this is it. This is TRUTH WEEK. We just beat the Cupcake Cards. If we're going to do anything in 2025, it must happen over the next seven days. This is our moment. Our once in a lifetime...

You may ask yourself, "What is that beautiful house?" You may ask yourself, "Where does that highway go to?" And you may ask yourself, "Am I right? Am I wrong?" And you may say to yourself, "My God! What have I done?"

Same as it ever was.

Same as it ever was.

Same. As. It. Ever. Was.

Is TRUTH WEEK akin to the "Truth and Reconciliation" hearings - here's looking at you, South Africa - that I hope to se one day? Will there be judgement - for Hal or anybody else? Is there justice? You can't predict baseball, my friend.

Sammy was probably compensated in booze, cigarettes, and dames for this ad (not necessarily in that order):

It's not just the loss column, it's the "All Important Loss Column"...

I thought it would be the Maneschevitz commercial.

Although spelled correctly in the commercial.

Most men eventually experience a loss column.

It is impossible to achieve the aim without suffering.

And doesn’t almost every day feel a bit “off” for your 2025 Yankees?

Stay hungry, Stay hungry, Stay hungry

Move a muscle, move a muscle, move a muscle.

Make a motion, make a motion, make a motion.

Pull it tighter, pull it tighter, pull it tighter.

Double beatin', double beatin', double beatin'

Double beatin', double beatin', double beatin'

Palpitation, palpitation, palpitation.

Stay hungry, Stay hungry, Stay hungry.

I wondered yesterday where all the fans were in STL. Some say it’s the heat. But the Cards sat at .500 going in and the Yankees are a phenomenal draw on the road. Or they used to be. Perhaps fans have wised up to the smoke and mirrors presentation that the Yankees have devolved into, or maybe they just can’t stomach watching bad fundamental baseball.

In Tampa, GS Field hold the same dimensions as YS, which means Stanton will be in RF for ar least one game. Volpe was actually benched yesterday, though I’m sure he’ll be back tomorrow. They need to show positive momentum by winning 4 of 6 this week.

As someone wiser than all of us said, “it’s all right in front of us”.

Many fans have migrated over to watch/experience minor league games this year due to the cost. I know of four families in different parts of the country that bought in to limited season packages simply because of the affordability and entertainment value. It’s more of a fan/family friendly time at the ballpark.

Boone is gunna step down after this season for health reasons.

And let me clear - Boone’s health is fine.

He’s going to be stepping down for our collective mental health . . .

The lack of fans yesterday was surprising, especially considering it was
Red Schoendienst Bobblehead Day.
