Armageddon outahere. This fall, to win anything meaningful, the Yankees must conquer not only Boston, but maybe the primal forces of nature

Well, at long last, here we are...

Today, it's Baltimore. A team of perpetual disappointment. (It's not for nuthin' that they're called the O's.)

Last patsy of 2025.

Last weekend of summer winds and a friendly moon.

Last tango for Goldschmidt and Bellinger, the mercenary replacements for Juan Soto.

Last games for Grisham, who will surely disappear over the winter.

Last chance to analyze Schlittler, a name from a bad 1950s burlesque review.

Last chance to do what we couldn't do all summer: Beat Boston and Toronto.

Turns out, collapsing for two months in the middle of a season carries consequences.

One week from now, the Yankees could be facing their most important event in this millennium: Game three against the Redsocks.

Or maybe not. Is it coincidence that two hurricanes, potentially fused into a doomsday embrace, might be simultaneously climbing up the East Coast? Right now, the timing looks perfect. Almost too perfect...

So, here we are. Everything is coming to a head. All our lives, we've waited for the wolf to knock on the front door, wondering how we would respond. Well, he's in the driveway.

Here we go...

It’s the hope that kills.

I’ve seen this movie too many times and it wasn’t interesting the first fifteen times. This team, like so many other Yankees teams of The Intern Era, are doomed to mediocrity. Just like the man himself.

True, Dick, inarguable. Our only ray of light is that there are no teams in the AL that are more than mediocre. The NL isn't scary, either. Milwaukee beating up on the Central division doesn't make them that great, imo.

So over the next month, we'll be watching the not bad slug it out with the pretty decent. And as Cashman the Clown says, it is truly a crapshoot.

How unexciting.

It makes me sick JM that the only way these Yankees get to the WS is for every other team in the AL to be either mediocre or just plain terrible.

It sucks. The "commissioners" we've had damaged the game immeasurably.

Heard this on the radio...saw this posted in a subreddit...

Within the last 20 World Series,

Only 9 end up winning the World Series with the best record in their respective league

Only a couple times did the best record in both league meet in the World Series.

It's quite common for a low 90s win team to knock out a 100+ win team.

Even with format changes, it doesn't change the fact that there are upsets.

For those complaining about off time and what not, it's always happened in modern times. If your team won over 100 games, they should be able to win a 5 game series against a good team.

Fans will never respect a Commissioner's Trophy for the best record because this is just how we select the winner every year.

Exactly. The hope kills. They beat the White Sox and the Oreos and seem to be knocking the cover off the ball and they seem to be invincible. Then the playoffs expose them, and another season ends like all the others. I'm terms of success, we are barely better then the Baltimores and the White Sox.

He's having quite a half year:

Yankees thrive with Stanton in lineup

The Yankees’ record when Stanton is in action underscores his value. The team is 23-4 in games when he homers this season and 70-39 in contests he started. His presence forces pitchers to change their approach, often benefiting hitters around him.

They better win the division somehow. If not, it's Fried and Rodon vs Boston. Which means Refsnyder, Boston's platoon lefty killer, will feature. His long-plotted, Shakespearean revenge will manifest.
