Yes, they have a fine team, and yes, they have our number, last night notwithstanding. Their pitching can shut us down any time, and don't wager the house that if we face them in seven, we will beat the LA Angels of Anaheim, or whatever they call themselves these days.
But one familiar face inspires hope.
The Wallflower.
Yes, he puts up seasonal numbers, and yes, he has a game show host smile, last night's game included. He can gap a double on us any time, and don't wager the house that if we face them in seven, we'll shut down Bobby Abreu -- "el Comaduce" or "the Tin Man," or whatever they call him these days.
But in a seven gamer, at least one ball hits the right field wall that should have been caught. That's a double instead of an out. I'll take it. For two years, we watched and shook our heads, bemoaning the loss of Paul O'Neill. For two years, we watched and said, this won't win a ring.
Nick Swisher is not Roberto Clemente in right field, but he is far closer to O'Neill than the Wallflower.
I don't wish ill on Bobby Abreu. Nice guy. But both the Phills and Yanks turned out better without him.
Ahh, but they'll lose to Boston, anyway, so what's the diff, am I right?

It's hard to take the Angels seriously with Abreu in right

Lest Swish will put holes in the Right field wall with his spikes, but he still won't make the catch. He climbs the wall last night and the ball hit the top of the wall right by his shoulder. Where have you gone Paulie O'Neill?
