Jose Veras House: The Shelter for Battered Yankee Pitchers

Colter was a tall, proud man with a terrible secret: Whenever he wore his pinstripes in public, strangers with bats routinely beat him to a pulp. Worse, people who watched soon added their own verbal abuse, sometimes with vulgarities. He had nowhere to go. The future looked hopeless.

Tanyon seemingly was living the perfect life. He had a fine career, a winning spirit, and he enjoyed the respect of sportswriters and peers. Then one day, the beatings started. He told no one, but everyone knew anyway. Soon, he could not go home or worse -- throw home.

These are the heartbreaking stories of Jose Veras House, a safe place for battered Yankee hurlers.

Here, abused former Yankee bullpen pitchers seek to put their lives back in order. Here, no questions are asked, no ERAs computed. Former codes about facial hair don't apply. The men can grow mustaches, and they don't have to worry about being misquoted. Here, former Yankees receive more than food. They are greeted by happy Yankee fans, wearing gloves for their protection.

There's always enough food to go around, especially when old Chef Hank Steinbrenner has butchered a horse for some of his famous chilli.

Remember: Jose Veras House... where nobody remembers your line score.
