Staten Island Advance (New York)

Dear Editor,
I have long been bothered by the English spoken on Staten Island. I do expect professionals to be proficient in their specialties. Doctors should know medicine, lawyers should know the law, and journalists should know English grammar.
One recent sports section had a column that had a sub-headline that said, "Yankees catcher's signing may have went under the radar,"
What bothers me is that a large part of the population will read this and say "What's wrong with that?" It should have said "may have gone."
I'm afraid someone will now "aks" me where I went to school. When did they stop teaching grammar in the schools?
