Why Are the Yankees Playing Like They've Won Something?

This is, I will admit, just picking up on the general feeling of Our Gang—hardly an original thought.

But why?

Why in the name of Babe Ruth are your New York Yankees playing as if they've won something?  When they have not.

The day started with the decision to discard MCBROOM! for the one thing this franchise has plenty of:  money.  This, when the need for him might be just two tweaked gonads away.

But much more concernful have been the bizarre pitching decisions.

Yesterday, Ma Boone pushed his luck by trotting out Johnny Lasagna and Cordy Gearhead in key situations, but got away with it.  Today, he went to Ryan Dull-as-a-butterknife and did not.

Why?

It's a media myth that the Yanks' herd of relievers has been overused.  They have not.  None of them are on a pace to exceed their season inning ceilings.  And once the team clinches the division—IF it clinches, looking at you Dr. Obugan!—there will be plenty of time to rest them some more.

We've already thrown away enough games this year, during All-Star Game Nap Time, and never mind the Rip-Off in the Ravine.  Pedal to the metal until something, at least, is won.

Mirage! Smoke! Mirrors! They will be lucky to make the wildcard! And if they get in, will Boone suddenly learn how to manage? Savages! But poor leadership!

Magic number is 10.

I will be happy when it is 0.

I will be ecstatic if it happens next weekend in St. Botolph's Town.

n.b., that magic number is to eliminate the Carmine Hose.

LET ME TELL YOU....

I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE IN THE CAR TO HEAR THE MASTER'S CALL ON BOTH HOMERS IN THE 9TH INNING TODAY.

I LITERALLY GOT GOOSEBUMPS!

THE MASTER JAMMED SO MUCH EXCITEMENT INTO BOTH CALLS, IT WAS TRULY MAGICAL.

TREAT YOURSELF IF YOU DIDN'T HEAR BOTH CALLS AND FIND THEM SOMEWHERE ONLINE.

LONG LIVE THE MASTER WHO STILL PACKS A PUNCH AT CRUNCH TIME!

ALL-CAPS,

Just listened to it (I missed most of the game, but had yes feed on in the 8th and 9th). The Master had his mojo working in the 9th. I didn't care much for the KIA ad, but the rest of the inning was pure Sterling gold. At 81, I think he actually had an orgasm in the middle of the Ford home run call. Suzyn must have been disappointed to not be in the booth for that. The sacrifices she makes for the Yankees!

....AND GETTING BACK TO YOUR QUESTION HOSS....

YOU ARE SO RIGHT.

OUR SEASON IS LITERALLY ON THE LINE WITH THE HOME FIELD , AND WE SEND RYAN DULL, AND CHANCE ADAMS OUT THERE IN A 0 - 0 GAME, LATE?

WE CAN'T PLAY GAMES LIKE THAT!

WE MAGICALLY DODGED A BULLET TODAY, BUT WITH VERLANDER TOSSING NO HITTERS, WE CAN'T AFFORD TO PUT TIE GAMES ON THE LINE WITH DULL, ADAMS, (AND SOMEONE BY THE NAME OF TYLER LYONS), WHO I NEVER EVEN HEARD OF.

WAKE UP COOP!

WAKE UP BOONIE!

OUR WHOLE POST SEASON RELIES ON HOME FIELD!

WE ARE GOOD, BUT NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO TEST NOT HAVING HOME FIELD ALL THE WAY THROUGH!

RUFUS!

I'M TELLING YA, AS HE FIRST RAISED HIS VOICE FOR GARDY, I CRANKED UP THE VOLUME.

GOLD.

WIFE AND MOM (88) WERE IN THE CAR. ("CAN YOU PLEASE LOWER THAT"?)...FOLLOWED BY LAUGHS.

I LOWER THE VOLUME.

SECONDS LATER, THE MASTER RAISES HIS VOICE AGAIN.

VOLUME TWISTED UP HIGH AGAIN!

"IT IS HIGH, IT IS FAR, IT IS GONE" ...AS I'M DRIVING I CAN'T HELP BUT START CLAPPING. (WIFE AND MOM START CLAPPING AS WELL).

MAGICAL.

THE MASTER MUST NEVER LEAVE US.

P.S.) EARLIER IN THE GAME I WAS MAD AT THE MASTER FOR SAYING, "...AND VOIT WALKS...WAIT IT'S STRIKE 3...".... TRUE!...LOL!

Ford lives out his childhood fantasy, walk-off home run in Yankee Stadium.

How did this get by me -

Khris Davis is hitting .224 -- he has hit .247 each of the last four years (has this ever happened before -- where's stat douche when you need him?).

For him to match the .247 for the fifth straight year, he would need to go on a tear (for him at least) until the end of the season -- 31 for 89 would do it.

Also, did he piss off Dr. Olu (or his steroid source?)? From 42, 43, and 48 HRs to 19 this year, the year of the super happy fun ball? Marcellus smells something rotten.

Thanks, Stratman, and thanks, ALL-CAPS. And in fairness to The Master, the call on Voit was yet another outrage, a decision that he had gone around, when he hadn't. Voit had started taking off his shinguards to go to first, when the ump finally decided he was out.

Another shaky year for the arbiters.

The Master ought to be careful with Ford’s homer holler. Jeep might object to the free advertising received by a competitor.

Think of the commercial opportunities for Ford:

"If you like your vehicles lumpy, like your gravy, get a Ford!"

TREMENDOUS!
And thank you Stratman, I was traveling and the MLB audio feed of The Master had cut out, I saw the results but I soooooOOOoooo wish I could have heard it live, but thrilled to hear it now on memorex.

LONG LIVE THE MASTER!
& LONG LIVE IIHIIFIIC!

Rufas and Horace and all other Yankee friends on here I watched the game live and was delighted when Gardy tied it up and was exstatic when Ford got the walk off

I spend way to much time on the baseball draft I even watch live when they are phoning in the late rounds and franticly look up the players stats

Mike Ford has long been a favorite of mine

Undrafted perhaps because of his Ivy League credentials he was not taken seriously but he has done nothing but hit in the Minors and to think we had Carter and various other *experienced* reanimated corpses stinking up 1B and the bar was so low I couldnt understand why he was not given a shot
Anyway I was delighted to see Mike Ford finally be given a chance and even if he is traded away at the end of the season he has given a good account of himself.

My new pet project is Brian Keller

He was drafted in the 39th round and seemed to be a non prospect in every site I checked
He was good at every level and threw a 70 pitch shutout in AA.
He has been promoted to AAA and the results have been mixed with him getting battered for 11 runs in one start and his walk rate is way higher but Im sure he will figure it out as he has done each time he is promoted and he still strikes out a lot of batters and if he ever throws an inning in the Majors it will be pretty amazing he is a very easy player to root for.
Maybe a long shot but he is perhaps quietly good and he could be added to the 40 man roster?

Anyway thanks for making me so welcome on this blog it makes the games so much more fun when you can have a wee laugh and joke with fellow fans.
