Yankees trade Nasty Nestor Octavio-Cortes Jr. to Mariners for money

In assessing the deal, one problem...

They didn't say how much.

They said for International Money. So if it's in pesos, probably about the cost of a pinata, which in his case would be very fitting.

The international bonus money can be traded in blocks of a minimum of $250,000

Better than nothing I suppose for someone drafted in the 36th round

The 4-dimensional chess master at work again. Cashman saving Hal some pennies.

Let's just accept that this off-season is going to suck. It represents what, it has slowly dawned on us all, is the new norm, mainly that the Yankees are not in it to win it. They are in on the cheap, spending a smaller percentage of their increasing profits every year, making money, but seemingly ambivalent about winning.

There will be no big splurges and, if there were one, thanks to the mediocre styrofoam-brained Cashman, he will be a big mistake. We'll lose a few of our youngsters - always a crapshoot, but one that any crackhead is willing to take in order to get the next fix: the retread, has-been slugger or the bullshit "power arm" that another team is more than happy to part with. This is actually not some new trend or pattern - this has been goin going on for a long time.

There is no accountability - losing doesn't get you canned. Losing MAY eventually get you thrown under the bus to save Brian's job, but it won't get you canned, so long as you FOLLOW ORDERS, take the lineup that the computer generates, and maybe smash the roof of the dugout a few times. If you can sell enough swag, they may not even trade you. It's a business, Jake, just a business.

Happy Turkey day, fellow turkeys. We truly are rubes. I will always love what the Yankees represented to me as a kid and as an adult but, at this point, under THIS ownership, it's dumb, sentimental tradition that keeps me involved at all in this bullshit ponzi scheme. They take our dollars and our loyalty and promise us they will deliver on the heritage of winning and competitiveness. Ain't going to happen anytime soon.

Sell the team, assholes, to someone who wants to win. Sell the fucking team. Fuck, CBS would want to win more than Hal The Impotent.

I feel your pain, Bitty.

I note also that this is described as a "trade." Used to be, something like this was said quite clearly: "Yanks SELL Cortes to Mariners"—not "Traded him for money."

Look, chances are he will be no big loss. But as mentioned today, you don't just sell or release guys like this. You pick up the next Jay Johnstone or Bobby Brown, who will get some hits for you down the stretch, play a decent season for you. Or you at least get a lottery pick pitcher.

This is pointless.
