Genius at Work!

Think you're smart enough to work for the New York Yankees' Crack Analystics Department (CAD)? Take this simple quiz and find out!

Pitcher A—let's call him Clarke Schmidt—has the following splits on his 2024 regular-season record:

Home:  8 starts, 2-2 record, 4.50 ERA
Away:   8 starts, 3-3 record, 1.39 ERA

Clarke Schmidt should start:

A) At home
B) On the road
C) Wherever the genius, Brian Cashman, thinks he should start

If you chose "C," you were correct!

Let's try another one.

Pitcher B—let's call him Carlos Rodón—has the following splits on his 2024 regular-season record:

Home:  14 starts, 9-2 record, 3.11 ERA
Away:   18 starts, 7-7 record, 4.69 ERA

Carlos Rodón should start:

A) At home
B) On the road
C) Wherever the genius, Brian Cashman, thinks he should start

Oh, I'm sorry! It was a trick question. Carlos Rodón should never start again anywhere, ever!

Thanks for playing, and we'll see you back here in a few weeks with a new analytics quiz, when we ask:

The New York Yankees should sign:

A) Juan Soto
B) Pete Alonso
C) Whoever costs Hal Steinbrenner the least money from his incalculable fortune.

Thanks for playing!

Incidentally, another little weird stat to mull:

Not just the last two World Series between the Dodgers and the Yankees, but 4 of the last 6, have been won by the team that lost the first two games. This happened in 1955, 1956, 1978, and 1981, with the winners being evenly split.

Yeah, that's not happening this year. I think we're talking more like 1963...

I remember 1996 very well. I thought they were toast, losing the first two and losing the third. When suddenly....Leyritz, wasn't it? His more recent history is ignominious, but that was great.

Isn't it funny that the stat-driven Yankees organization simply ignores the obvious stats sometimes? Like Boone sending up lefty hats to face a right hander, regardless of any particular right-handed hitter's superior stats against righties.

Stats are basically an ass-covering excuse for all the mistakes Boone and Cashman make. It's pathetic.

Lefty bats, not hats.

Just rename the Yankees to the StatDrivers...or better yet the Analytics...they will then be called the "Anals" for short...

Dear MLB.

A small request.

Can we please start the season in mid-march (not middlemarch), playing only in domed stadiums or semitropical locations?
Then end the season with the world series in EARLY October? NOT when the players need FUCKING PARKAS?

Signed,

Any fucking fan with a brain that doesn't work for marketing, ANALyitics or accounting.

Thank you for your consideration.

By Genius, I hope you are referring to Genius Cashman.
