Screw dis. Sick and tired. Last night, did anybody NOT think the Death Barge was gonna lose? Didn't matter that they tied the game. Not a whit. Once into overtime, it was over. Devin Williams, first pitch, straight to the backstop, letting the ghost runner take third - it was over. OVER! You knew. I knew. The Yankees knew. EVERYBODY KNEW...
Williams. Can't believe this guy. One of the most disappointing Yanks in modern history.
We ditched Sonny Gray for less.
For this guy, we dropped the Beard Ban?
RESTORE THE YANKEE BEARD BAN, SHAVE HIM, THEN RELEASE HIM.
We are on the verge of passing Cleveland, Texas, Cincy, and San Francisco in the Tankathon. One five game loss streak - and this team collects them like Beany Babies - and we could draft 13th (assuming we haven't lost our first pick due to the de facto payroll cap, so nothing matters, which about sums up the only world view we can adopt, right now, because the Yankees absolutely suck.)
The best the Yankees might do, in terms of tanking, is to overtake the Marlins and Cardinals, maybe in late September. They'll never break the top 10, even if our second half-record is among the worst.
They won't fire Boone. They won't clip Cashman. They won't even take off his daughter's show. It's a family operation, and they're making money, reams of it, and it doesn't matter if the team loses, as long as it is competitive, and in an era of expanded playoffs, everybody can compete for the wild card, so here we are, watching games that we know we're gonna lose, and calling on a guy to give up another HR, somebody, shoot me, i kneed a drink...

Ok I have always wondered what everybody on here looks like and finally have seen one of you at the game
Who is this?

I have an alibi.
"SHAVE AND RELEASE," like the ancient fisherman's maxim, "Catch and Release," should be our rallying cry until the end of August. After that, it's "Albuquerque or Bust!" Another great day in Yankee-dom. It's not fun to watch these guys. My inner child has so few other opportunities to frolic and now Hal and Brian have put a stake in Yankee baseball. How are those Metsies doing? Just curious...
Scots, I don't go on X - it's a moral stance on my part, no judgment, so I don't know the photo you posted. But when are you going to book passage on a fast ship, come visit, and take in a game with us?
Suck, suck, suck. Doesn't even begin! And that guy in the x, right on.
Guy looks younger than my son.
Hey, Scots, maybe you and I can share a raft. I'm in Germany, but I can meet you in Scotland. (Really, I'd love to, but money and my wife's chemo appointments preclude that possibility.)
The Athletic is getting pretty damn blunt about Boone:
"Williams surely deserves blame for his performance on Friday, but so does Boone. It is inexcusable that Williams was in the game at that moment, and beyond overdue for him to be removed completely from a high-leverage role."
Why not Leiter? He barely worked in Texas. 12 pitches. 12. And Boone thought he was only an "emergency" replacement. Well, what the fuck does he call an emergency? Hill was available. Headrick was available. The man is too damn comfortable with losing.
After the game, Williams sat at his locker, staring down for 20 minutes. He said, "I suck right now." The perfect guy to put out there in critical moments. Even he knows he shouldn't be getting used that way.
But Boone? The idiot. And Cashman is worse.
And now...

I haven't really listened to ZZ much. But these old farts were good. Too bad they lost their bass player. They're sadly down a Z.
Now, there was a band, Bit. Saw them a number of times. I can't believe that back in the beginning I thought they were fastest band I ever heard. They sound relatively tame now in that regard. But still great.
I was a devoted Roxy and Bowie fan back then with some Zep. First time I heard Blitzkrieg Bop my head exploded. That explains the large holes under my hair.

JM - did you ever see that Ramones documentary, I think it was called "End of the Century?" Really great. Sad, as well, but if makes you realize that these four desperate dudes from the heart of Queens simply changed the world. Their trip to England was a seminal event in the punk scene. And they never got their just due here.
I liked new wave music (including Neue Deutsche Welle groups such as Alphaville, Peter Schilling, Nena, and Falco). While many had elements of punk intertwined, that wasn't a genre I cared for much. However, I did like counting the needle tracks on Debbie Harry's arms.
Yankees reliever Devin Williams' struggles continued Friday night, as he allowed three runs in the 10th inning of New York's 5-3 loss to the Houston Astros.
Carlos Correa hit a tiebreaking single before Taylor Trammell added a two-run homer off Williams to make it 5-2. Williams has allowed four homers in his past eight appearances.
"I'm not making pitches," Williams told reporters. "It's pretty simple. I stink right now."
Williams has two blown saves and recorded two losses in his past four outings, giving up at least one run in five straight appearances since July 29.
He has allowed 28 earned runs this year, two more than he did in 2022 to 2024 combined.
Boy we could sure use Greg Weissert (remember him?) right about now.

Devin "Clay "Blown Save" Holmes" Williams
Devin Williams can't handle New York. Not the first time this has happened to someone...
Band name is take off of one of their idols B.B. King.
Lagrange is a song about a (ahem) brothel in Texas. Saw Jake Shimabukuro play it on electric ukulele. Really wild show with Keb' Mo.
Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to watch a Yankees game(bad as the team are) and especially meet up with the good fellows of this site.
It would be a dream come true
Right now I am too skint to make the trip but I promise one day I will save up and do it and it will make me very happy to meet everyone and buy you a drink
Yes I can bulid us a boat and we can row the Atlantic and take in a game
You and your wife are in my thoughts I send good wishes to you both I know sadly from experience what you are going through
I'm not sure if I saw that one, Bit. I tended to see all the docs about CBGB 70s bands. Even was one on the BBC about Blondie. Boy, that was a tad overblown.
Bookmarked that one, AA. Thanks.
Thank you. And I wish you had never gone through it. Not something I would want for anyone on the planet.
I like new wave, too, but that came later. Falco was a musical genius and also pretty funny at times. Ian Dury and the Blockheads were absolutely fantastic. A strange pairing, but did it ever work.
I confess to having Neunundneunzig Luftballoons as a DJ 12". But that hasn't aged well for me. ABC has. Human League has. Heaven 17 has. Definitely a Brit leaning there.
You want New York? You can't handle New York!!
Never got into them, BTR. That particular song sounds like an early 70s Brit singalong to me. Weird, isn't it? The different associations we make from the same source.
Life is a minestrone.
By the way, I should've also added that I really respect X, as a band that was both important and had a good-sized following. Always found it kind of odd that I didn't really get into them.
