IMPEACH RANDY LEVINE

Yank prez rains mad money on Red Sox Republican

Last week, the GOP incumbent began airing a radio ad heaping praise on Fenway Park and the team owners, finishing with “Go Red Sox!” A few days ago, the campaign aired a web video featuring Brown standing outside Fenway Park in a Red Sox jacket, greeting fans. Now, it turns out, the president of the Yankees helped pay for those ads.

Supergrass Lyric Predicted Spitzer Scandal

Got my hobnails
I got the jitter shakes
Diamond Hoo Ha Man
I do what it takes

All I got, is all I need
Oh, but what I really want
Is in my dreams
When the sun goes down
I just can't resist
BITE ME!

Got to get you in my suitcase
Oh, can't you see
I want you
Got to get you in my suitcase

I'm going to hightail
To the motel
Love you all night long
Oh my baby bell

All I got, is all I need
Oh, but what I really want
Is in my dreams
When you hold me down
I just can't resist
BITE ME!

I got to get you in my suitcase
It's duty free, I gotcha
Now I got you in my suitcase

When the sun goes down
I just can't resist

BITE ME!

William S. Burroughs, Baseball Writer

An essay in William S. Burroughs' book The Adding Machine explains what 19th century drifters, thieves and addicts meant when they spoke of The Johnson Family:

In this world of shabby rooming houses, furtive gray figures in dark suits, hop joints and chili parlours the Johnson Family took shape as a code of conduct. To say someone is a Johnson means he keeps his word and honors his obligations. He's a good man to do business with and a good man to have on your team. He is not a malicious, snooping, interfering self-righteous trouble making person.
(Burroughs had a name for "malicious, snooping, interfering self-righteous trouble making person[s]." He called them Shits.)
Yes you get to know a Johnson when you see one. The cop who gave me a joint to smoke in the wagon. The hotel clerk who tipped me off I was hot. And sometimes you don't see the Johnson. I remember a friend of mine asked someone to send him a hash cake from France. Well the asshole put it in a cheap envelope with no wrapping and it cut through the envelope. But some Johnson had put it back in and sealed the envelope with tape.

Jetergate

Taxman: Derek Jeter cheated New York out of millions
New York Daily News

Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter cheated New York out of millions in taxes by claiming he lived in Florida when he really was living it up in Manhattan, state officials say.

The tax man is going after the All-Star slugger for three years' worth of back taxes and interest - using his own words against him.

"He has made numerous public statements professing his love for New York," the state Division of Tax Appeals wrote in legal papers.

The tax case is the first blemish on Jeter's squeaky-clean reputation, though there's no suggestion of criminal wrongdoing.

Jeter - who makes more than $20 million a year with the Bombers and millions more in endorsements - claims he established residency in Tampa in 1994.

State officials are seeking taxes for three years starting in 2001 - the same year he bought a $13 million apartment at Trump World Tower.

Contrite Joe: "I'm Not A Bad Person"

As skittish advertisers began to pull their billboards from the stadium and calls for his resignation reverberated, embattled manager Joe Torre yesterday continued a campaign of contrition over racially insensitive treatment of former Yankee Gary Sheffield, even while insisting that he shouldn't lose his job.

"I don't deserve to be fired," Torre, 67, told reporters after yesterday's loss to Toronto. "So I should be punished, and I'm being punished, and not insignificantly, by the way. I'm not whining, because I don't feel as bad as Sheff feels."

"I'm not a bad person," he added, his voice breaking with emotion. "I'm a good person, but I did some bad things."

Torre has gone past the edges of propriety before. When the Yankees let starter Andy Pettitte defect to the Houston Astros after the 2003 season, Torre referred to the "Jewish management" of the team as "money-grubbing bastards" according to Yankeeography, an investigative series on the YES Network.

Praising Kyle Farnsworth two days ago in a column he wrote for this space, Torre went out of his way to point out that the struggling reliever is white, adding, "That's huge for us."

Still, nothing has approached the storm that now swirls about him. Analysts say Torre picked the wrong victim at the wrong time when he aimed his barbs at the blameless and generally well-liked Sheffield.
