FYI: John's opening call on Yankee games is only a modest WinWarble

From the mailbag.

Dear IT IS HIGH, IT IS FAR, IT IS CAUGHT Editor,

Longtime reader, firsttime writer!

Hey, y'know what? When Kitty and I watch the radio pregame show introductions, we hear two of John's home run calls, plus a WinWarble. How long is that Warble? I'm betting eight seconds, seeing as how John thinks enough of it to put it on his show. It must be his longest. Am I right? Also, can you get me Derek Jeter's jersey?

HAPPY IN UTICA

Dear Happy In,

You raise a question asked commonly across the Yankiverse:

How long is the WinWarble played on every Yankee pre-game show?

We entered it into the Warbletron 1000 sound-and-time device and measured it at 6.81 seconds. That's a fine piece of warbling... but far from John's finest.

His longest ever recorded, last August against Boston, ran a whopping 7.94 seconds. It's probably too long for the pre-game show.

We're out of Jeter jerseys. How about a sweatsock from Shamus?
