Sterling Index climbs 181 points, hitting magic 700 mark for only second time this year

John Sterling, the Yankee Yelper, braced by another gutsy team comeback, warbled a 7.00-second Tarzan Triumph Friday, just 0.19 off his longest victory call of the year.

"What can you say about Sterling," manager Joe Girardi said, after the game. "He went into the call expecting to lose, then abruptly reversed his momentum and still had the lungs to bring a seven. Those people who claim he's getting old? They're not having to bat against him."

"It's an honor to be involved with one of his great warbles," added thirdbaseman Alex Rodriguez, whose towering shot to right won the game. "Let's hope the 'big mo' from this warble carries us through this series and beyond, because Washington is next, and we'll need everything we've got to hang in there against the Nats."
