The one we let get away

Just so all the folks who think we won the 2009 winter trading derby...

This from Keith Law's ESPN "Down on the Farm" chat yesterday.

John (Atlanta)

Arodys Vizcaino was clocked at 101mph in his last ST appearance. Do you think he can actually sustain that velocity, or do you think the gun was off?

Klaw (1:03 PM)

I'm not buying 101 - that is exceedingly rare. I would expect that his velo would tick up a lot in a short outing though.

Vizcaino is a beast. We dealt him to Atlanta with Melky and LH pitcher Mike Dunn... for Javier Vazquez and Boone Logan. Of course, we at IT IS HIGH went bonkers.

Immediately, the "clued-in" Greek chorus of Yankee blogs and "scouts" parroted how smart Cashman was and, more importantly, told us how little we know -- advising us to go back up to the bleachers, sit down and shut up.

Nowhere in sports does Yogi's famous advice, "It aint over 'till it's over," stand more prophetic than when you deal a prospect.

This spring... we're like the Tea Party, the NFL, the Scott Walker Republicans and the union Democrats... NO DEALS.

Don't forget about the other one Cashman let get away......Santana. If he would have given up Hugehes, Kennedy and Melky for that bum, you would have been killing him.
