1) The Martian
Jasson Dominquez is not an instinctive fielder.
At best we can hope for a Juan Soto type fielding performance, where he works really hard to improve all the way to substandard, as opposed to decent. Or good.He will hit however, and we will live with it because...
2) He will be the DH two days a week.
It is vital that the Yankees understand that he should never be in the field when Cole or Rodon is pitching because any error he makes will melt those guys down. So...

He can do this because...
3) Stanton ain't coming back.
3) Stanton ain't coming back.
He's going to retire.
He's made too much money to go through all the rehab again knowing he's just going to get hurt in a different way as soon as he returns.

This is an arm injury. He's still due for an upper body injury and the inevitable leg injuries.
As an added incentive, he knows if he quits now, his final act (the 2024 Playoffs), will be redemptive in the eyes of many.
He can go out on what passes for on top. Plus, did I mention that he's made more than enough money by now?
BONUS PREDICTION
The Martian has to play left during the playoffs even when Cole and Rodon are pitching and costs them at least one game.

These are sound predictions, Doug. I agree with every one.
The timing, badly scripted narrative, and actual announcement of Stanton's retirement won't likely be made available until much further down the road.
( Likely after Cashman resigns him in 2028 to a one year deal. )
Yeah, I just don't see Stanton leaving until he's Ellsbury-ed every penny out of his contract.
Great pic, Doug! But yeah, I gotta go with Pocono on this. Stanton is almost 35 years old—and he still has at least $96 mill coming to him. He ain't quitting.
Saw Gary Phillips, from the Daily News, on NY 1 this morning. He was talking about how the Yankees will be "a more rounded team this year."
Why? Well, because while Juan Soto was a great hitter, "He wasn't the best fielder in the world." And neither was Gleyber.
Right. And they have been replaced by The Martian and...?
It's to laugh.
I am willing to be astounded. Which is what I will be if GStanton walks away from a single dollar bill owed to him on his contract.
So last year, we theoretically had two outfielders who could catch (usually), and Soto. Now, we theoretically have two outfielders who can catch (usually) and Dominguez.
He did hit a double today in a rout of the Cards. Wells got a hit, too. And if The Martian DHs, which seems likely at least part-time, who plays left?
The guy who creates another hole in the lineup, that's who.
I guess I'm going to have to start listening on the radio again unless I want to brave the IPTV gauntlet. I still prefer watching the "Gameday" version of the games, the little stick figures that mimic the photo I once saw of a guy in the city on a raised platform, moving numbers around to depict what was going on via a telegraph feed he was getting about a game. Am I hallucinating? I know I saw this and will try to dig up the photo. I'll look at it long and hard and then delete it and probably forget to share it with you all.
I can't believe how optimistic you people are being.
I'm so fucking optimistic it's not funny. I just read about how the FDA canceled their regular annual meeting to decide what strains of the flu vaccine should be focused on next year. I just got over the flu. I feel about as hopeful for everything now as I do about the Yankees. Don't I sound hopeful? Fuck Hal, Boonie and Cash.
Fuck only Hal, Boonie and Cash? There must, MUST be others…..
He will hit? I admire your confidence.
