I've Been Away, But Now I'm Back

Don't expect a lot of good news today.

Glad to see you again, Phons. I expect the worst.

Yeah, you guys called it: the injuries to Judge and Cole—and anyone else they can dig up, Cantrun, Cabrera, etc.—are perfect for Cashie. He is no doubt breathing a big sigh of relief. I can hear the first ones at his postseason presser already: "Hey, what other team could have..."

Carl J. Weitz with a good assessment of the trade...followed by a horrifying reminder of just how damned long Brian Cashman has been pile-driving this franchise into the ground. Yes, Mike Lowell: future Gold Glover, Silver Slugger, World Series MVP, and two-time world champ, traded for three magic beans that never sprouted. In 1998!!

Thank goodness Gene Michael had picked up Scott Brosius for Kenny Rogers (addition by subtraction right there) as a back-up, shortly before being canned by Mad George. Ever heard of that concept, Cashie? Strengthening the roster just in case something goes wrong? No? I didn't think so.

This is going from bad to worse.

So that's what they mean by the pitcher covering first. Hunh.

So I heard this on the radio on the way home. Listening to WFAN. Host was discussing the Yankees. He said...if Judge is out for the season, they should trade their expiration players for value. Grishom expiring, Williams expiring, Bellinger will opt out. I totally agree with this.

Then I'm saying bring up Jones. Bring up whomever else. They wont win a World Series without Judge. Might as well stock up on our depleted farm system and get younger...

You've got something there, Ranger. No Judge, forget it. See what you can get for what you have.

I believe that it was reasonable, when the NYYs were interested in signing Judge, to point out that the guy was prone to injury. Here's the tale of the tape:

2018 -- 112 games
2019 -- 102 games
2020 -- 28 games (team played 60)
2023 -- 106 games
2025 -- 103 games

Yeah, he isn't a cigar-store-indian type (like GStanton). But if you pay for a pizza, and you get 5 slices put 3 half-eaten ones, you feel . . . well, hungry.

And this is a $40-million-a-year pie.
