Happy Tatsuya Imai Day. Ten observations on the state of the Yankees.

1. Tatsuya Imai has until Friday to sign.

2. The Yankees really, really, really need another starter.

3. Imai is the best available, unless they work a trade.

4. Their farm system is drained from last August deadline deals.

5. Compared to other farm systems, they cannot compete in trades.

6. They seem to be trying to re-create last year's team.

7. Last year's team finished second in the AL East.

8. Their anchors - Judge, Stanton, Cole, Rodon, et al - are aging.

9. Toronto, Boston and Baltimore have all made recent upgrades.

10. In public statements, Hal Steinbrenner shows no willingness to increase spending.

Thus, by Friday, we should know where this team is going in 2026.

So, happy friggin new year.

When it's 6 o'clock in the Eastern US, it will be midnight here. I'll be drunk or drunk and asleep. So Happy New Year to all, except Hal and Cashman and the anal-ytics department and most of the coaching staff and Boone as Jerry Mathers as the Beaver. The idiot.

Which reminds me of Groucho's old joke: when it's 90 degrees in New York, it's 70 in California. When it's 20 degrees in New York, it's 70 in California. The average IQ in New York is 100. And it's 70 in California. I know that's not true, but it's a well-structured joke.

I resolve to continue not spending a discontinued cent on anything Yankees. May Mamdani tax Hal out of New York and welcome new ownership. Amen.

If it happens - Imai, OH MY - will we rejoice? Would we expected to be grateful? And if it doesn't, will they care? No. So why should we. At least we had Matsui. Last year at Marienbad.

I may or may not be moved to post again today. If not, Happy New Year to you, my favorite online crew. We will prevail. We will survive. We may or may not live to see a better Yankee organization, but we will heal and, maybe, just maybe, find some joy again in baseball again one day. It may get worse before it gets better, and I cannot honestly say I have been to the mountain and seen the other side, but my coffee is kicking in and I can say that there is more to baseball than just baseball. Thanks to El Duque and to each and every one of you.

To paraphrase another expression, here’s hoping that you enter the new year the way you entered this world, naked and screaming.

Wishing a Very Happy New Year to you All, with big thanks for all the posts. Maybe a better future. Maybe the stars align this year. Maybe it’s Maybelline.

Who knows?

I feel the same: lucky to be here with all of you. And yes, Scotland, I love that toast! I've been very lucky not to have lost too many yet, but there were a couple more this year, and I'll miss them more than ever going forward.

Another one:

"Of all the money that e'er I had,
I spent it in good company.
Oh, and all the harm I've ever done
Alas, it was to none but me."
