So, it won't be long, right? We'll soon see him patrolling RF, eh? Well, dunno. The next time Giancarlo, 36, tweezers something - (surely, there's a red hot Polymarket for that) - it could be the last plucked banjo string in his unfinished, nine-year Yankee career.
If the '27 Yankees get canceled by the impending ownership lockout, Giancarlo would finish his career with 456 HRs and a BA of .258. Borderline Hall of Fame, maybe? Trouble is, his time in NYC has been a pizza rat horror orgy - (he's averaged 85 games per season, hit 189 HRs, batted .245) - and I'm not sure how many people remember his eight years with the Marlins. Was anybody watching?
Let's face it. For Giancarlo, this year has been a lost cause. Nobody expects him to return. Nobody expects him to return and hit. And certainly, nobody expects him to return, hit, and run the bases. He has been out since April 26, when he tweaked a McNugget while advancing to second on a walk. Unless Giancarlo comes back smoking hot, he'll probably get booed.
And why not? We know what's coming. He'll skip the rehab assignment in Scranton and go 0-for-20. When Boone is on the verge of benching him, he'll hit a few HRs. Then he'll tweak something. That's the Giancarlo we know. No matter how he looks, he's a pitch away from the Injured List.
Oh, well, at least he's running. Right? Or loping. Let's call it an anticipatory jog. If, say, he hits one into the right-center gap, and the outfielders collide, and both are knocked unconscious, and the second baseman must run out and retrieve the ball, and he slips on the grass - then Stanton gets a double. But God help us if he has to slide.

And so are the Steinbrenners. They're running for the money. Yesterday, they announced a $2.6 billion cash infusion from an evil investment group - Hail Hydra! - that will allow the family to expand its operations. Maybe they can buy Giancarlo a chair lift. He turns 37 in November. He'll need something to get around.

Due to the trades, and if Judge comes back, there won't be any place for this Tin Man in the lineup. Where's he going to play? The only possibility is DH, and that is occupied by Ben Rice. You're certainly not going to sit Rice for Stanton. So as it stands now, Stanton is nothing more than a glorified pinch hitter.
Never been a fan of his. Think of all we could’ve done over the years with that money….

Yeah, I’ve had enough of the Chisolm 🤡 show. The show team should’ve been more proactive in trying to deal him at the deadline. Hopefully they won’t make the unforgivable error of resigning him or extending the QO. Don’t be shocked if you see Volpe playing at 2nd in September.
In the 2nd inning yesterday, there was a play at first where Garcia fielded a groundball, then ran hard to first to complete the put out. It was a somewhat similar groundball compared to the infamous Rizzo play in the 5th inning of Game 5 of the 2024 World Series. It reminded me of that, anyway, so I went back on youtube and watched the Rizzo play numerous times.
The Garcia ball yesterday was definitely a bit harder hit, a bit easier for the putout because Garcia was a bit closer to the bag.
In the WS play, Rizzo was playing very far back, and far off of first base. (Terrible positioning, by the way: if you're old and slow, you have no business playing that far off the bag. It requires making very athletic plays on many routine groundballs.) He should've charged the ball and come in at the same time, taking a diagonal route to the ball, but he took the wrong angle. Rizzo went towards the line, perpendicular to the line. Then he waited as the ball finally came to him. When he looked up to toss to Cole, Cole was not there. But Betts was already a step or two from first, so even if he had tossed to Cole, it looked like Betts would have beat Cole to the bag. This was Cole, a model for the Pillsbury Doughboy Company, against Betts, who was running like a horde of demons was chasing him.
It was just a terrible play by Rizzo. He played it like a dinosaur. Yesterday, we saw Garcia field the ball and run very rapidly to first base. Yeah, run rapidly, something Rizzo was clearly unable to do anymore. Which goes to the question of why Rizzo was there in that position.
Rizzo had played terribly at first base for the entire playoffs. He'd been making at least one bad play per game. Fucking Boone gave away that game, gave away that World Series.
Not that the 2024 Yankees would have won that World Series if Boone hadn't thrown away Game 1 and Game 5. (I had predicted the Dodgers would win easily.) But it would have made it at least competitive. With Boone giviing away two games, obviously, Dodgers were halfway there without even trying.
If they bring back Volpe to play 2B, Chisholm should've been traded at the deadline. But that's Cashman. All upcoming free agents walk away, and we get nothing for them. And we get booted out in the first round or two of the playoffs.
This year, I don't even know that we make the playoffs. All the other teams will start playing better and better as we go into the home stretch. Unless the Yankees turn it up a few notches, there ain't going to be any playoffs for us.

I seemed to remember Ryan Weathers on the Marlins throwing differently. So I went on youtube and pulled up highlights from his Marlin years. Weathers has changed his windup and delivery some. The way he throws now, with the quick windup and delivery, that would bother me as a batter. It would be kind of unnerving. He looks almost like he's barely in control, arms and legs flying all over the place. Definitely a more difficult pitcher to hit now. I heard the Altar Boys were asking for him at the trade deadline. That's where he started out before being traded to the Marlins. They must be seeing the same thing I'm seeing.
BTW, speaking of the Altar Boys, our old friend Randy Vasquez is doing all right. I saw Vasquez pitch the other day on national tv. Looked pretty damn good to me. They say he's pitching for his spot in the rotation. If they have better pitchers, I want to see them. We sure could've used a guy like this, eh? Four pitchers + Higashioka for Juan Soto's final year before free agency. Still can't get over it. That's Cashman for ya.
Well, we ride Cashman's ass pretty hard here. Occasionally, he does do something positive. Getting Ryan Weathers was a good trade. I thought so from the moment it happened. Plus, Cashman said "fuck off!" to everyone who asked for George Lombard Jr. at the trade deadline. And rumors are that everyone and his sister asked for Lombard:

This transaction has nothing to do with improving the team. It has all to do with getting income without paying a dime in taxes because it's structured as debt, not income. It's what many rich families do and what the ordinary worker can't do. The other previous investors are the ones who get screwed because the debt is subtracted from profits and assets.The funding company will get a few hundred million in fees wrapped into the deal. In 5 years, the rapid appreciation of top sports franchises will likely make the Yankees worth over 12 billion. That's close to 2 billion for Apollo. Plus yearly "servicing fees." Remember, the Yankee family did the same thing when they sold a 49% equity stake in YES to Fox Sports, only to buy it back several years later. They took the appreciation just like one might take out a HELOC or second mortgage. Only in the Streinbrenner world, they pocket the cash, pay no taxes and the business pays off the loan. Not them.

...Then, one of his worst playoffs: 5-26, 4 RBI, no homers. But still, played every game...
...So how the hell do you go from that to a winter of rest, spring training...then injured just a month into the new season? For the next 4 months? How does that happen? I just want to know.

Yanks had a big chance in that Series with Ohtani so injured. If, as you say, Boone hadn't blown two games with his awful managing, they would've gone back to LA up 3-2. They might have won it all. Hell, even if they had gone back DOWN 3-2, they would've had a chance.
And yeah, I've been saying that for years: Cashman does not anticipate. Ever. You'd think contract expiration dates were carefully guarded secrets.

Here’s an interesting take on Weathers from YGY:
From Opening Day through July 5, Weathers had posted a 4.29 ERA over 17 starts and 92 1/3 innings. During that time, he had one consistent bugaboo, which was giving up the long ball. Over that span, the southpaw had posted a 1.56 HR/9, which led to some meltdowns.
However, over his last five starts, Weathers has made a change. He's started throwing his four-seamer less and his sinker more. Doing so lowered his barrel rate from 10.7% to just 2.5%. As a result, he's posting a 0.31 HR/9 during this most recent stretch.
Until July 5, he was throwing his four-seamer 28.4% of the time versus 18.2% for his sinker. Since July 10, he's cut the traditional heater down to just 9.6% utilization while marginally increasing the sinker to a 20.6% clip. When asked about the change, Weathers said, "The other pitches stay in the ballpark."
